Backing Up Catalogue

Hi,

I am running Lr CC 10.4 on a Mac OS Big Sur

When I exit Lr it has stopped allowing me to create a backup of catalogue and instead crashes program when I ask it to make back up. Also when I try and Optimse the catalogue it also crashes. If I enter preferences the system is also crashing. Lr was running normally up to mid Aug but has suddenly stopped allowing me to make a backup of catalogue

Any suggestions how to fix this bug?

Hi Rikk Can you suggest any other steps that I should take to try and resolve problem Thanks

That tells me that you probably have a corruption in your existing catalog causing the error.

Options from here in the order I would attempt them:

  1. Recover from the last working catalog backup
  2. Contact support and request a catalog repair
  3. Export the corrupt catalog into a new catalog (Select All Photos - File>Export as a Catalog)
  4. Create a blank catalog and import your previous suspected-faulty catalog into it.

See if you can now get into LrC Library> Edit> Preferences> Performance and set 'Use Graphics Procesor' to Off. Close and restart LrC and try backing up the catalog and optimizing the catalog.

Hi Todd

I went through the steps you suggested but Lr crashed again when checking integrity of the catalogue during the backup process.

Try Rikk Flohr's suggestions. If you have a recent catalog backup using that is your fastest solution. Next is to backup your current catalog file to another location and then try #4 "Create a blank catalog and import your previous suspected-faulty catalog into it."

1- File> New Catalog

2 - File> Import from Another Catalog.

I reviewed your crash report and based upon what I saw, your preference file needs resetting and you may need a clean reinstall.

This procedure works for both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Desktop.

If you are using Lightroom Desktop it can change the location of your local storage. Please review this setting after resetting preferences.

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.

2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.

3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.

4. Close Lightroom.

5. Restart Lightroom.

Hi Rikk

Many thanks for your reply. I have repeated the suggested process 3x since getting your message and on each occasion after resetting, closing and reopening Lr the issue has persisted Can you suggest any further steps I can try?

Next step is a Clean Reinstall

Clean Lightroom Install Procedure

  1. Close Lightroom
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Use the Adobe Creative Cloud App to uninstall Lightroom
  4. Restart the computer
  5. Install Lightroom via the Creative Cloud App without launching any other programs.
  6. Restart the computer
  7. Launch Lightroom
  8. Wait 5 minutes
