Best External Hard Drive for us with LightRoom CC

I am wanting to know what is the best setup to use Lightroom with an external hard drive?   Solid-state drive sounds like the best option but for a large drive, they are expensive.  What other options do I have?  What has worked well for people and if so can you share your solution?

Thank you,

Keith

If your images are already on an external drive you can right-click on the folders and 'Update Location' and navigate to the folders on your current external drive.

What platform are you using?

The price of SSDs are still quite high as you've noted. The truth is that as long as you keep your .lrcat files on your internal drive you shouldn't really have a problem with performance. Especially if you are on a mac using the newest USB 3 drives.

Are you using Lightroom CC web or Classic?

I am using Classic.  How do you set up the .lrcat file to set on the internal drive but host all image files on the external drive? Right now I just have a tower of 4 interchangeable drive and one is dedicated to holding all my photos. Can you provide me a link to a USB 3 drive option?

Thank you.
