Question

Best workflow method for photo editing same files from home to office and vice versa

Hello,

I am editing using PS and LRC both at my home and office. I keep my LRC catalogue on a 120gb SSD (internal m2 on an enclosure, dont have a budget yet for proper external SSD) and all the raw files on a 4TB WD HD.

My routine is work during mornings at my office then bring the 2 hard drives at home and continue there. Everyday I do this.

Is there a better way to do this workflow? Is there another more efficient way? Thanks!

What drawbaccks do you have that you want to eliminate?

The only improvement I can think of is to move the catalog file to the 4TB WD HD, and then you'd only have to move one drive back and forth. However, if the catalog file is on this drive, it might seems slower in the Library Module than with the catalog file on an SSD.

Hi, sometimes my .cat file hangs, and therefore, crashes my LRC. I suspect it might be the low spec m2 ssd I have. But I was hoping to find out what the pro editors do on these kind of situation.

Explain in more detail. Exactly what actions in LrC seem to trigger this crash? Exactly what happens when the .LRCAT file "hangs"? What do you see? What are the error messages?

You need to run diagnostics on this SSD to detect if it is malfunctioning. If it is not malfunctioning, this is not an SSD issue. The specs of the SSD are irrelevant to crashes.

Please keep this in mind for future questions: by phrasing this issue in terms of HD and SSD and as a "workflow" issue, and not even mentioning the actual problem (hanging), we have been distracted from other possible causes and solutions. This is called "cause jumping".
