This happens frequently when I rename a folder.
Folder renames correctly but behind all the windows is a blank persistant "Rename Folder" window that can't be moved or closed. Lightroom hangs when i try to quit, likely due to this window.

BTW this started with latest update. Using Lightroom Classic 14.1.1 on Mac OS 15.2

First, restart your computer. If the problem persists, try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

Thank you. I just reset them. I hate resetting my lightroom preferences as it always causes me some pain. Settings I've come to rely on get reset and I don't notice it until something stops working in photoshop, like my save actions. I then have to track down what changed in lightroom that broke my photoshop actions when I reset preferences.

A quick and easy way to avoid having the rebuild your preferences after resetting is to make a copy of the new file and keeping it safe for reuse. When necessary you can use this copy to replace the old or corrupt file.
You can find the location , etc fort he Lightroom Classic preference file below linked Adobe Help document.

Thank you! That helped a lot. I now have a backup copy of com.adobe.LightroomClassicCC7.plist and can reuse it when I need to reset my preferences.

Similar symptoms are occurring with the New Snapshot window and with some plugin windows, only reported on Mac, not Windows.
At least in those cases, a simple work around is to click anywhere on the main LR window, and the ghost dialog will get hidden behind the main window. It's OK to let them accumulate -- they'll go away the next time you restart. No need to reset preferences.

Moderators, @Rikk Flohr: Photography, similar symptoms with ghost dialogs have been occurring Rename Folder, New Snapshot, and some plugins. Please consider merging with this bug, which reliably reproduces the problem:

Hi @GWSHARK101! 👋
Please follow John's suggestion and let us know if it helps. Does this happen with every folder, or just specific ones like those containing videos? Do you see similar behavior when you move folders?
In the meantime, a workaround is to rename the folder outside of Lightroom Classic. This will make the folder 'missing' (with a question mark and its name in italics). To reconnect it, right-click on the folder in the Lightroom folder panel and choose 'Find Missing Folder'. In the dialog that appears, navigate to the folder's new location/name on disk and select it.
Hope this helps!
Thanks so much! Alek

It happens to multiple folders. It's random and doesn't happen every day. Most of the time I'm not even renaming the folder, I'm just using the rename folder option in order to copy the folder name so I can paste it elsewhere to rename a separate folder on my finder. It's part of my workflow and I've been using it for, oh about 12 years. This issue just started about 2 months ago.

Ok, just reset preferences and restarted computer. I'll come back here if problem shows up again. I always have a hard time finding where to adjust the view modes in library and develop so I can batch label by color, rating, flag, etc. It's one of those things I set and forget, but have to redo whenever preferences are reset. I just also noticed it changes settings when I open in photoshop with lightroom settings, this causes me all kinds of mayem as it opens in 16bit by default which ends up breaking my photoshop save actions. Ugh. I know it seems simple but resetting lightroom preferences always turns into a time-consuming pain for me.

The issue just happened again. Went to rename folder. Copied name (didn't actually rename it) Pasted it into my invoicing software. Went back to lightroom and the blank rename folder hovers there, unable to get rid of it. This is after resetting preferences last week. I do this task multiple times a day and your suggested workaround is a good suggestions but would add time to my day. I think it would be easier and faster to force quit Lightroom when I need to. However, force quitting Lightroom repeatedly might introduce errors so I'm not keen on doing this long term. Again, the glitch seems to happen randomly. Sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes it doesn't show up all for a week.
