PHOTO BOOKS
I’m trying to cut down the number of key strokes that need to use to make a book. I seem to be constantly changing font, size, colour, offset etc … which is very time consuming. My last book was 150 pages with over 1,100 images and a large amount of text. Having to change all text settings each time a new page is added is so frustrating and such a waste of time.
How do I best make a book template for small landscapes books {10 x 8}?

is this an indesign question?

This is not an indesign question. I don't know what that it? I am referring to the Book Module in Lightroom Classic.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

I really don't have answers for all your requirements but will try some suggestions-
I want to standardise settings globally throughout the book
background colour - 65%
Select all pages [Ctrl +A] - Set background colour.
font - Adobe Clean font colour - 35% font size
Create a Text Style Preset.
[Ctrl+Alt+A] to select all text cells- Choose your Text Preset.
Even with a Text Preset 'Opacity' always returns to 100% so instead- set a colour of low saturation in the colour picker box.
page 12 photo 8
Specific pages with specific options will only be saved by duplicating a saved book (and deleting photos from the Collection), or create a Custom Page Template that you can substitute (after using Auto Layout for the overall book).
How do I best edit photo text especially when the font is really small?
[Ctrl+T] for single page view and with your Text Style template applied it should be legible.
Why are page numbers sometimes not consistent throughout the entire book?
Don't know! Try unchecking 'Page Numbers' then recheck.
If I use one of my templates or use a previous book with all photos deleted, why do some pictures remain in the book?
Don't know! It just happened to me- with two images that were not even in the collection i had used.
How is it best to edit a photo that is already in a book?
Select the PHOTO Cell- Press [D].
Return to the Book with [Ctrl+Alt+4]
When you have set options and design layout for one page, you can save it as a 'Custom Page Template' .
Then you can use your Custom Page Template to create an 'Auto Layout' Preset. Use Auto Layout when starting a new book.

I'm trying to change the font, size, colour and offset of photo text on all images within a book. I've followed Julianne Kost's direction on Youtube to select 'Edit' then 'All Photos Cells' but the advice is not working. The option to choose 'Photo Text' is greyed out. Please can you share instructions.

When you save a customised layout for a page, are the text settings saved with it? That is preferences for both photo text and page text? I have been struggling for months to get this to work properly.

When editing all photo text in a book and 'Select All Photo Cells' has been chosen, is it possible that only the photos with active text boxes are selected and not every single photo including all photos without text boxes. This has the effect of inserted 'Photo Text' boxes under each image even when no text is wanted.

I'm trying to save a customised page with photo text font size 8 and page font size 12. The page text won't save as font size 12 and continually defaults to 8 {the same size as the photo text.

When trying to use a previously completed book as a template for another book, I go to the collection of images in the library module and delete all photos in order to quickly start a new book with no pictures. However, howdoes one go about removing all the text throughout the entire book?

Rob, I greatly appreciate your input so far. If you are unable to answer my queries about text within photo books, please can you suggest tutorials and/or instructions which cover my issues. I've been trying for years to create a useful book template but I've never succeeded. I'm sure there must be a way but none of the videos that I've watched cover my concerns.

when select a photo and press D 'No Photo Selected' comes up on screen?
No problem for me and I cannot reproduce the error message. I can either select a photo cell on one of the book pages, or select a photo on the filmstrip, and [D] takes me to the Develop module. The only message I can produce is this- if an image is ‘Missing’ in the catalog.
select 'Edit' then 'All Photos Cells' but the advice is not working. The option to choose 'Photo Text' is greyed out.
[Edit] > [Select all photo cells] or [Ctrl+Shift+Alt+A] and then I can place a checkmark in the Photo Text box. Works for me.
If 'things' do not work as expected, then a reset of the preferences file is often recommended.
When you save a customised layout for a page, are the text settings saved with it?
I don’t think so. A Custom Page template will save both Photo and Text cells on the Custom page, but not the font & size TBMK.
When editing all photo text in a book and 'Select All Photo Cells' has been chosen, is it possible that only the photos with active text boxes are selected and not every single photo including all photos without text boxes. This has the effect of inserted 'Photo Text' boxes under each image even when no text is wanted.
No. Photo Text uses metadata to fill this box (eg. Filename) unless you deliberately type something else in the box (Custom text). An Auto-Layout that has Photo text boxes will place a Photo Text box under each photo, but you can select a Text box on an individual Photo and delete it from the one selected photo, or just delete the Text in the box.
.
I'm trying to save a customised page with photo text font size 8 and page font size 12. The page text won't save as font size 12 and continually defaults to 8 {the same size as the photo text.
Not possible TBMK- Any Custom Page Template will preserve the Photo and Page text boxes, but the font and font size will not save in the template. And when you select all Text , the Type settings are universal- affecting all text.
The only way (I know of) to universally change Photo text and Page text as different (12,8) is to –
1) Change the Font type and size universally by selecting all text cells, (eg. Font 8) then-
2) Select one Page Text box (or one Photo Text box ) on one page,
3) Hold [Ctrl] and select multiple pages (Yellow highlight on each)
4) Change the Type options. (eg. Font 12)
.
Even a COPY and PASTE a page layout (from [Right-Click] )will not preserve Font and Font size on a new added page- only the 'Layout' is copied.
Why are the bottom 2 photo text boxes positioned differently to the 2 above?
I can only suggest that the page margin at the base of the page is not sufficient and the Photo Text moves to overlay the photo. Make the Photo cells smaller ( [Ctrl] to select multiple cells).
a previously completed book as a template for another book, I go to the collection of images in the library module and delete all photos in order to quickly start a new book with no pictures. However, how does one go about removing all the text throughout the entire book?
1) Select all Text Cells [Ctrl+Alt+A]
2) Press [Delete]
Is it possible to convert a photo cell to a text cell?
No. Mouse [Right-click] is the only way
1) [Right-click] a photo cell- Remove
2) [Right-click] on page, Add Cell > Photo Description .

Providing some assistance here since Rob's replies on this post have been so informative. I'm having book problems of my own and found out how to handle:
------------
If I use one of my templates or use a previous book with all photos deleted, why do some pictures remain in the book?
Don't know! It just happened to me- with two images that were not even in the collection i had used.
---------
Within the Book Module when you have your filmstrip of images in the collection, on the right bottom Filter Bar, try setting to 'unused' and this should then show your UNUSED PHOTOS which you can then click first one and zip down to the last one and Shift-Click to highlight all and then Right-Click and Remove From Collection.

Thanks Jeff @jeffhamonphoto I believe the problem of 'remnant' photos remaining has been a problem for at least 4 years that I know of.
I think these words were quoted from an Adobe staff member- "Until you have created a "Saved Book Collection" the Book module does not 'know' what photos you want for the book so it pulls in all recent photos from books and folders. "
Your "unused photos" is a good hint.
