Camera Matching Profiles - Canon R5 MkII

Community Beginner ,
Aug 31, 2024 Aug 31, 2024

In the Adobe Camera Raw supported cameras, the new Canon R5 MkII is listed as already supported.

But, altough the "Camera matching profile available" collumn is marked as "Yes", it has a 6 in-between brackets, something that looks like call to a note (the R8, the R50 and the R100 also show this).

However, I don't seem able to find any not, both at the end of the Canon cameras table, nor at the end of the full cameras list.

What dos that (6) mean?

Thank you in advance for any help.

"My R5 markII will not tether with the latest Lightroom classic 13.5 ."

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II isn't listed in the Tethered Camera Support page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/tethered-camera-support.html

LR relies on libraries supplied by Nikon, Canon, and Sony for tethering to their cameras. The Canon Software Development Kit (SDK) doesn't yet support the R5 Mark II:

https://www.canon-europe.com/business/imaging-solutions/sdk/

So complaints to Canon would be appropriate.

FINALLY. The June 19th release of LR Classic Version 14.4 recognizes the Canon R5-MkII for tethering.  There are plenty more wonderful improvements in the latest, too, as in all updates.

Thank you.

Still unaddressed for years is the long, ongoing annoyance of the border of LR Classic closing the side panels when mistakenly touched if trying to access scroll bars in the panels on the edge of the program.

I have no idea what that Yes refers to.

Can you post a screenshot, for example:

Looks like the footnoting on the Cameras Supported By Camera Raw has gotten mangled at some point, not just for Canon but for the other brands too.  I believe the Canon footnotes "(6)":

are referring to the single footnote at the end of the Canon table:

@Rikk Flohr: Photography, the footnote markers on many cameras in Cameras Supported By Camera Raw have gotten mangled, similar to how the Canon footnote markers were mangled above.  See the cameras in Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, OM Digital Solutions, Panasonic, Sony.

The Camera Matching profiles for the Canon EOS R5 Mk2 are included with LrC 13.5  and Camera Raw 16.5 (see attached screenshot)

My R5 markII will not tether with the latest Lightroom classic 13.5 .  R5 works fine.

Rt markii not shown in latest camera raw list, just R1.

John,

Thank you so much for clarification.  I was going crazy thinking that there was something I was doing wrong, changed cables, ports, etc.  Then tested all again with original R5, all ok.  I suppose that with such a new monumental camera that Adobe will release a new LR Classic when Canon has provided the needed "libraries."

Great community support,

I have contacted the Canon developers programme and claimed that they should add Canon R5 mark ii to their SDK.

This was the response I got one day later:

"EOS R5 Mark II is officially supported by the latest EDSDK version 13.18.40.

I hope Adobe can add the camera to the supported camera list for Lightroom Classic soon."

It 's now up to Adobe to add Canon R5 mark ii to the tethering list in Lightroom Classic!

I'll be happy to see it happen, if soon.  LR does support Canon R5-2 raw files but not tethering the camera in the latest version.  I'd like to buy another R5-2 but not until it is supported by LR tethering.

""EOS R5 Mark II is officially supported by the latest EDSDK version 13.18.40."

That version of the Canon SDK was released on 12/5/24, just a week before LR 14.1 was released:

https://developercommunity.usa.canon.com/s/

It typically takes one or two LR releases, sometimes more, to incorporate the newest version of a manufacturer's tethering library. LR releases every 8 weeks (not counting urgent patch releases), so we might hope to see the R5 Mark II supported for tethering in the February or April releases.

Just updated the latest LrC today, 4/24/2025, to Version 14.3.  Tried tethering a Canon R5-Mk2, which contains the latest firmware but "no camera recognized" by LrC.  The camera knows it's plugged into a computer but won't function at all when plugged in.  Still No Tether Support for a major high end camera purchased in August 2025.!!

Am I the only one who can't tether the Canon R5-Mkii to Lightroom Classic?   All previous Canon cameras still tether well in my LrC with no issues.  The Adobe list of tether supported cameras from March 5, 2025 does not mention this camera or the Canon R1.  This is very disappointing.

It's not unusual for Adobe to take six months to integrate a new version of the manufacturer's camera SDK.  The Canon SDK was released 12/5/24.  So hopefully the next version of LR, due in June, will incorporate it. (I'm not justifying this slow pace, just communicating the usual practice.)

I understand that Canon was slow releasing the SDK.  I've never seen this amount of delay on any of the new Canon cameras in the past.  I usually purchase them as soon as they come out.   I've been looking for the R5-Mk2 support with each minor & major update.

I was hesitantly hopeful that the latest LRC Update a couple of weeks back , 14.3.1, would "support the latest camera releases" but alais no Tether support for Canon R5-MkII.  Tethering is used by many studio Canon photographers.  Looks like we'll all have to stick with tethering with the R5 for now.
