Can i delete old presets?

Over the last few years I have made various develop pre-sets to speed up my workflow. There are some that I won't be using any more on new photos. Can those pre-sets now be deleted, or do finished images in my catalog that i have used them on still rely on them? For example if i deleted those pre-sets and then at a later date wanted to go back and export some images that had used them, would i then run into problems?

I'm a bit unsure because in the history panel after I've used a pre-set there's only 1 entry with the pre-set name, even if the pre-set has done multiple things at the same time. Would Lightroom always need to know what that pre-set contained?

You can safely delete those no-longer-used presets.

When you apply a preset, LR copies its individual settings (exposure, contrast, etc.) into the photo's settings and adds the name of the preset to the photo's history.  So if you later delete the preset, it has no effect on the photo.
