Every Nikon camera has its own NEF type. Lightroom Classic needs to support that type, or else it won't import NEF images from that camera. You are using a pretty old version of Lightroom Classic (version 12.2, the current version is 14.1), so that is most likely the reason why you can't import the NEF files from your relatively new Nikon camera.

Upgrade Lightroom Classic, or else use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert your NEF files to DNG.

You do this in the Creative Cloud app. The same app you used to install Lightroom Classic.

I can not import Nikon z6iii RAW into LRC on my desktop. LRC recognizes the card but says there are no images in it to import. I had old LR5 files and libraries on this computer which do appear in LRC. However, I can import the same images onto my laptop running LRC, but it never had LR5 installed. I suspect there is some sort of conflict between old LR5 anbd LRC on my desktop. Any thoughts on how to get LRC omn my desktop to import successfully?

What version NUMBER of LrC are you using?
This has nothing to do with Lr 5.

Show us a screen capture of the entire Import dialog box when you get this message that there are no images to import. Use the "Insert Photos" icon to include the screen capture in your reply. Do NOT attach files.

You have "Add" selected at the top of the screen, which LrC probably doesn't allow you to use when the source is a camera card.
What happens if you choose Copy, and select a destination in the Destination panel on the right?

This is not what I requested. I specifically asked to see the ENTIRE import dialog box.

Not sure if this what you are looking for but is the only screen that comes up when I enter "import"

Yes, this is what I want to see when I say "Entire Import Dialog Box". In your first screen capture, the entire right side of the Import Dialog box was cut off and missing.
I see you want to ADD photos, however please click on COPY. Then on the right, make sure the Destination Panel is present, expanded and points to a folder that actually exists. Then click back on ADD.

I just got Lightroom now and neither classic or Lightroom can see my Nikon z5 files NEF format. Surely this camera would be supported

What is the exact unedited word-for-word error message?
What version NUMBER of LrC do you have? (We need to know the exact version NUMBER and not words like "latest" or "up-to-date").

What happens when you try? If you get an error messagee, what is the exact word-for-word error message? (I can't see your file attachment, or anyone's file attachment — please use the "Insert Photos" icon to include screen captures in your reply)

@RPHinKC For your Import you are using [Copy as DNG]. You could use [Copy] instead, but with any Copy process you need to state a Destination for the folder where you are copying the files to.
So what have you set in the Destination panel?
Rotate the spinner triangle to see options.

@RPHinKC Your Import dialog screen-clip indicates you are using the "ADD" mode.
There is no Destination panel when you use the "Add" mode. "ADD" simply leaves the photo files exactly where they are.
Are you intending to move these files to another location? Then you would use the "MOVE" option, or "COPY" and a destination panel will appear requiring you to give a folder destination.
However, you do not see photo thumbnails in the import screen, so are there files existing in the {Dan & Naomi 2025} folder? Search with Mac Finder.
As an aside, I note that you have multiple folders on the {Desktop}- Not always the best location to have many files. Can you import files from a folder that is NOT on the {Desktop}?
Also I note you have a parent Folder name with a slash in the name- This may be confusing Lightroom-Classic as to the location of the files.
