Question

cannot delete from LR classic

I'm trying to delete inwanted photos from LR classic.  The program won't do this.  If I have a photo, not in LR, I can delete it in File Explorer.

I flagged the photos to be deleted, select them all and hit the delete key.  Always worked in the past.

I get a message "There were X files that could not be moved to the Recycle Bin."

I'm using windows 10, up to date, and LR classic that is current.

Updated info:  this seemed to start being a problem after the lasted Windows 10 update.  In file explorer I couldn't move or delete files until I reset the explorer.exe file.  Now it is no problem.  Mike

Update#2: So I was diving deeper into permissions for folders.  Ammazingly the permissions in the one folder were not correct.  All the other folders seem to be OK.  Once I changed the permissions the deleting went right to Recycle.

Thank you to those that responded.  Mike

In addition to making sure LRC does not report the photos as missing (!)  check the user rights, are you somehow not the owner?

Thanks for the answer. So I checked LR and it will show me the file location in Explorer, so I don't think it is missing. I am the owner of the file.

Thanks for the reply to my problem.  I did as you suggested and space is not a problem.

Right-Click on the Windows Recycle Bin and choose [Properties]

Check the figures for available drive space and Bin size, etc.

In the long-ago past I had a similar problem and found that (for reasons unknown) my Recycle Bin was set to 4megabytes (ie. almost nothing) so I could not delete to the Recycle Bin.

Your error message does not suggest this, but, is it possible the photos you are trying to delete are marked as "missing" [!] in the Library?

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Have you emptied your recycle bin lately? Is it running out of space?

And related to that vs defeating just one file via Explorer, what happens in LRC when you delete just one image?

I tried the one photo at a time and received the same message.

If you have images that have been marked for deletion, don't highlight them but simply hit Ctrl+Bkspc And Lightroom will give you the option to remove them from Lightroom or delete them from disk.

Thanks for the shortcut. Tried it with the same result. Checked my recycle bin and there was only one file in there so plenty of space to delete to.
