Question

Cannot Move Photos to a Different Folder From Within Lightroom

Hi - is anyone else having this issue?

Normally I move all my "maybe" photos to a separate folder; until recently I could easily do this from the Library screen by creating an additional folder and dragging/dropping to that folder.

Now, when I hit "select all" / Ctrl + A and attempt to drag and drop, the selection reverts back to just the first photo I clicked on, all of the rest become deselected. No files move. I've tried restarting a few times, but no luck. Driving me insane as obviously there's no easy way to view a photo's catalogue attributes within the folder outside of LR...

Any thoughts or fixes would be appreciated!

Hi There -  Since  I  can't replicate this in my  Lr catalog can you tell us if you've also tried to drag and drop a  group of selected images from the filmstrip  at the bottom into a new folder?

Are you perhaps still looking at the All Photographs or the Previous Imports collection?

Another way to move images within Lightroom is to select all the images that you want to move, then right-click on the folder that you want to move the images TO. One of the options will be to move the images to THAT folder. That option seems to work well for me.

Are you pointing your mouse at the actual thumbnail image when you hold the mouse button down? (It won't work if you point the mouse at the grey area around the thumbnails and hold the mouse button down)

Workflow suggestion: instead of moving photos from here to there, assign stars or color labels to the photos you want to consider as "maybe". For example, after you have selected the photos, press 7 to assign the Yellow color label; this is much easier than creating a new folder and then physically moving the photos via drag and drop.
