Catalog compatibility between LR classic v11 and v12

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I currently use LR Classic v11 in 2 different computers (Macbook M2 and iMac 2012).

I have the LR catalog + all my pictures in an external drive to be able to work with the same LR catalog and pictures with both computers (but not at the same time, of course).

It looks that the new LR v12 is not compatible with my old iMac.

If I upgrade to LR v12 on my Macbook, probably it will upgrade the LR catalog next time I use it. Do you know if the LR v11 in my iMac will be able to continue using the upgraded version of the LR catalog?

Thank you!

The answer is No. Catalogs are not backwards compatible. Lightroom Classic 11 will not be able to read a Lightroom Classic 12 catalog.

Thanks for your answer Johan.

I suppose that there is not possibility of upgrading LR Clasic on my Macbook to v12 and working with the catalog on v11.5, right? I mean, if I upgrade LR to v12, it will automatically upgrade the catalogue to v12 version once I open it for first time or there is a way to avoid that cataloge upgrade and been able to using it with the LR Clasic v12?

Kind regards.

That is what I was telling you. Lightroom Classic 12 upgrades the existing catalog, or creates a new catalog, in a format that cannot be used by Lightroom Classic 11. And no, you cannot use a non-upgraded version 11 catalog in Lightroom Classic 12.

Then I will be forced to stay in LR Classic v11.5 forever.... 😞 or until I can afford a new iMac....

Thanks for your help.
