Hi guys

I have been using lightroom 6 for more than 3 years. This past year I have been using it on my imac and I have had no issues.

However today - out of nowhere - I keep Getting an error saying that my catalog cannot be opened because it is too new to be used by this version of lightroom.

I dont have CC and I dont have other versions downloaded on my computer.

I tried opening lightroom with another catalog and then right double clicking, but then when it tries to relaunch with the new catalog the same error message shows up.

I have done nothing different— and yet this happens. Please help my get my work on all m photos back.

Rikke

No I have not downloaded any trials. I don’t think K ever have and if I should have done it then it would be a very long time ago.

The evidence you are providing indicates you did use a version more recent than Lightroom version 6. It doesn't really matter how that happened. You need to find somewhere on your hard disk other catalog files, one of them should open in LR 6. Use your operating system to search for all files with a name that ends with .LRCAT, and then try opening each one in LR 6.

Alternatively, you have opened a version of LR on your computer that is older than LR 6 (for example LR 5) and you then can't open the LR 6 catalog in LR 5.

So saying you didn't do things doesn't really add up here. The evidence contradicts your statements. You need to search your computer for different versions of Lightroom, you can search for files named Lightroom*  by using your operating system to do the search of all hard disks.

You know what, I appreciate you trying to help me, but luckily for me I’m in contact with the support team and he has actually helped me.

We recovered the catalog from a backup and were able to open it up in lightroom.

    The problem is solved.
And no, I had not downloaded any new trials.

Did you ever install Lightroom Classic as trial? Lightroom Classic would upgrade your catalog, but it will upgrade a copy. The original catalog should still be there too, in the same folder.

Can you post a screenshot of the contents of your catalog folder in list view?
