I am planning to purchase a new computer IMAC 5K.

As I have LR6 previously installed (online) on my current computer operating on Window 7,

what must I do to have my licence changed.

Regards,

Edwin

You received your serial number when you purchased LR. Therefore, you can find it in your records somewhere. You can also find it at Adobe.com, go to "Manage Account".

Hint hint: you should never have to wonder how you can find your serial numbers (not just for Lightroom but for all your software). You need to store them someplace you can always find them, such as a text file named "serial numbers.txt", which is backed up to the cloud.

Your existing license is for both platforms. Therefore, no action required.

Thanks, good to know. So what do I need to do once I have purchased the Imac.

Where can I find the LR6 licence number.

If you really get stuck, you can retrieve your serial number from your Windows 7 PC by running Belarc Advisor.

Products: Belarc Advisor

Once you have recovered the serial number, store it safely for future reference so you can find it again if you ever need to reinstall your software. I store all my serial numbers in a single text file in Dropbox so that I have access to them anywhere, at any time.

Actually the serial number is stored in a Text File on the hard drive.

No need for that program.

For LR 6.

Serial number  C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Lightroom 6.0 Registration.lrreg

Preference file and other file locations | Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom 6

And for LR 5.

Serial number C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Lightroom\Lightroom 5.0 Registration.lrreg

Where to find preference files for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5

That's funny, because I am well aware of these documents pointing out the location of the file with the serial number, and I also KNOW my serial number, but because I try to help people as you do, I went looking for the .lrreg file for my LR 6, and I cannot find it. In fact, I had Windows search all hard disks for all files whose name contains lrreg, and it finds none. I can find the file for LR 5, but no such file exists on my computer for LR 6, even though LR 6 is properly installed and running properly. A mystery. Can anyone explain?

That file/folder location is a System file/folder and the normal Windows search feature will not search System Files/Folders.

MS has determined that normal users don't need to see what is in system files/folders.

Also by default System and hidden files/folders aren't displayed in File Explorer. You can turn all of that on.

I did that already, nothing should be hidden, the file simply isn't there according to Windows search.

Manually browse to that file location.

I don't have it either but then I am a subscriber and I never installed LR 6 on this computer.

Also whether you check/uncheck those options Windows Search still won't turn up System and hidden files or folders.

Windows search feature is Hard Coded not to search or display system and hidden files and folders.

You need a different search program.

Also are you a subscriber to the Photography plan and do you have the CC DTA installed and are you signed in.

An install of LR 6, even if when installed you entered a serial number, will default to the CC 2015 version if you are signed in to the CC DTA.
