Classic 12.2 - GPU is no longer being utilized for Exporting?

Just noticed that when i export, Lr is using 0% GPU. Preference is checked and active for GPU Export.

Exporting 1600px .jpg with my M1 Max, 64GB.

I've tried Disabling, Enabling with Auto, Enabling with Custom and the results are the same. Slow Exports with almost no GPU being used during the Export and CPU hitting close to 1000%.

The GPU test carried at launch sometimes fails (typically after an app or OS update). The result being that acceleration modes that should function don't. The solution is to

Locate the Camera Raw GPU Config.txt file.

  • (macOS) /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/GPU/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic/Camera Raw GPU Config.txt
  • Manually delete the Camera Raw GPU Config.txt file.

  • Relaunch Lightroom Classic.

Tested Mac OS 13.2.1 on LrC 12.2
Similar spec machine but with 32 GB Ram
Export 65 images
CPU Peaks at 478% - GPU at 72.3%
GPU was engaged throughout the entire run.

I ran the export two separate times and both runs were very similar.

Perhaps another customer will chime in here with their results for comparison?

Thanks Rikk. Any ideas why my GPU isn't being utilized? What can i do to troubleshoot?

That did the trick. Thanks @Ian Lyons.
If this is a common problem, it seems like a button to reset the Config might be needed? I wonder how many users have this issue, but aren't aware that it's happening or what to do about it?

A reset button probably wouldn't help as the launch test is there to capture unsupported GPUs and ancient drivers, which is anything older than a week if using NVIDIA 😉

As to your second question. I've provided the solution I gave you 5-6 times this year. So, I wouldn't say it's a common issue. Like yourself, folk notice something odd about export times, then discover the change in GPU config that can't be corrected. The issue and fix have been around before Export acceleration was introduced. It's even documented (yes you should bow your head in shame). I've provided the link below.

BTW, if you mark this thread as correct, then folk using the forum search will find it much faster.
