Clicked import and everything stopped

I've used LR Classic for about 2 years without many problems, but one that has happened a few times recently is I'll try to import and the program will slow and never get there.  Once I click "import", the screen freezes and finally goes to the import screen, but that is as far as it gets.  It never even shows the source I am going to get my photos from.  I've tried optimizing the catalog first, tried other catalogs and tried starting a new catalog, but nothing changes.

I'm using 12.3 release

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz

16 GB ram

64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    GPU details?

     

    And does it still happen with 12.4?

    Hmmmm, don't know how to find out the GPU.  You tell me, I'll find it.  Guess I need to update the release and see.  I did finally get LR to work.  I started a whole new catalog which I had tried unsuccessfully before, but at least it worked this time.  Don't understand what changed.
