Clicking on current slider value begins typing at the end instead of replacing the current value

This is an error introduced in today's new LrC release v12.4, running on MacOS 11.7.7.

In the Develop module, click on a slider value, such as for Contrast. What should (and did up to now) happen is that the current slider value should be highlighted, so keying in a new value replaces the old value. This new v12.4 release has changed so that clicking on the field instead puts the cursor at the end of the current value. For example, if the Contrast value was +7, clicking on the value and typing '30' changes the value to '+730' which is then rejected as not being a valid entry (the error says the value must be between 0 and 100).

 

Of course this is annoying and time consuming. To work around this new error, you have to press the delete key enough times to first remove the current entry, then type the replacement value.

 

What should happen is that clicking on the value should highlight the current entry, so typing a new value replaces the current entry instead of adding to it. This has always worked until today's v12.4 release.

    This message is for the Lightroom Desktop group, reporting a new bug that was just introduced with the latest LR classic 12.4 version cloud update (I just downloaded it today and this feature does not work as it used to)

     

    BUG - When you're editing images and click on Temp or Tint, or any criteria of a photo you want to change it DOESN'T WIPE OUT the existing number and insert the one you're typing (like it always had), it instead KEEPS ADDING the numbers you're typing to the number already in.

     

    So, if you're trying to change white balance from +8 to +11, you end up with +811 (in this case you get an error saying 150 is the max, you must pick a number between -150 and +150). Now every single time you just need to change a value quick you end up having to backspace a few times to delete the existing value before you input the new one. It adds a few keyboard clicks to an already labor intensive editing process, especially if you're a wedding photographer... That's a lot of unnecessary steps.

     

    Please escalate this bug to the Lightroom cc desktop / IT department. This looks like something that got missed in QA. Hoping we can get this reversed to how it used to work. Thanks! - Ester K

    Which exact version number of Mac OS are you running?

     

    Several others have reported similar symptoms with Mac OS 11. No workaround, other than upgrading Mac OS, has been discovered.

     

    (Also, the official name is "Lightroom Classic". "Lightroom Desktop" is the name of the completely different desktop app that's part of the "Lightroom" cloud ecosystem.  "Lightroom CC" is no longer used. Because Adobe marketers have adopted such confusing naming, it's unfortunately important to be pedantic about this.)

    I'm on iOS 11.7.6 and I'm having the same issue. It really slows me down now when I'm tabbing between values.

    This appears to be a MacOS 1l issue as it works correctly on 12 and 13.  Any reason you can not update your OS?

    I am running Mac OS 11.5.2. I've tried restarting my computer and resetting preferences and still am unfortunately running into this issue.

    Considering all 3 people reporting this issue are on MacOS 11 it appears to be an issue with that operating system.  History has shown that around October Apple will be releasing MacOS 14 and Adobe will be releasing LrC 13.   At that point, Adobe will probably drop support for MacOS 11 as they have been supporting only 3 versions of the OS.  As this is the case I doubt there will be any fix for this issue for LrC 12 and MacOS 11.

      Hey guys,

       

      I've been using Lightroom for 7 years and just the other day noticed an issue with the cursor. I'll try my best to describe it. I'm using a 2019 Mac Book Pro (32GB Ram, 2.6GHz 6-Core i7, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB).

       

      Say the exposure value is 0.2, in the past, if I clicked on this number 1 time and entered ".5" the exposure value would change from 0.2 to 0.5. It did this with everything and that's what works great for me.

       

      The other day, I noticed the cursor no longer sits at the front after 1 click on the value. This means that in the same example where the exposure is 0.2, it I click on the value once and enter ".5" it enters "0.20.5"

       

      The cursor used to fully overwrite the value but now it's in the wrong place and I can't make the same adjusments. It's extremeley frustrating and it does it with every setting, WB, Contrast, Highlights, Grain Amount, etc. 

       

      Any ideas? I added a screen grab of where the cursor sits after 1 click on any value. Any help is really appreciated!

      Might be a 'Mac only' problem. And perhaps try a Preferences Reset that can often fix unusual glitches.

      PREFERENCES RESET

      In Windows- When I click in any 'number' box the current value gets entirely highlighted, and anything I type replaces the old value.

      Other comments- anyone?

      Having the same issue since 12.4. I have tried resetting prefrences and lightroom.... Still having the same issue.... any update?

      We didn't hear back from Tom whether restarting the computer or resetting preferences fixed his issue. Please try it and report back (to help others).

      It's working correctly on the four macs I've just checked (i.e. 3 M1 based and 1 Intel based).  They're all running macOS Ventura 13.4

       

      As suggested earlier you should try resetting the LrC preferrence file.

      Hmm, that doesn't happen on my LR 12.4 / Mac OS 13.4, which suggests there's something specific to your installation.

       

      First, restart your computer. If the problem persists, try resetting LR's preferences:

      LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

       

      If that doesn't help, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.
