Color balance changes when toggling crop tool

LR 2015.9 CR 9.9 Windows 7x64 Pro i7-4790k 16gb mem

I just noticed that since the most recent update, there is a definite color shift in the image display when toggling the Crop tool ("R").

Here are two screenshots of an image, the only difference being that in the second one the Crop tool is selected while in the first one it is not. The shift is subtle, and seems to affect greens the most. On other shots with less green the shift is almost invisible. This happens on ALL images, regardless of whether any edits have been applied or any parameters changed. It is of course most obviously visible when actually toggling the Crop tool with the keyboard "R".

Note also that the color temperature settings do not change, which indicates to me that it's a preview rendering issue.

I have the same problem. IPad Pro, shooting with iPad Pro camera. I think in my case it has to do with that I used the “lens/filter” on the iPad Pro Lightroom in-app camera to get my captures to how I wanted them to look on screen. (The photos will only be used for my etsy shop). I think when clicking the crop tool it negates those lens/filters I used in shooting mode. If I save the file to my camera roll it will keep those color changes as well. I wound up ”Exporting original images” to save what I’d taken.

Im wondering what camera you used and if there was anything “pre-applied“ that could have caused that.

I tried and could not see the problem. Are you switching between library and develop module or just in develop module when you switch to crop tool?

Just in develop module. It is really hard to see unless the scene is primarily green. I can barely detect the color shift in typical photos of people.

I'm also on Windows 7 running LR CC2015.9 and see no difference between the normal and Crop tool previews. I checked this in PS using manually aligned screenshots with Levels applied to reveal subtle differences. This is most likely a Preferences file or monitor profile issue.

I see the visual difference you report. Can’t replicate on this end (Mac OS). It could be the current preference settings for GPU which you may wish to adjust and see if that helps. Look at the Performance preference options. You’ve hardware calibrated the display? If so, check that software and make sure you’re not making version 4 (V4) ICC display profiles. They sometimes don’t play nice with applications.

GPU is disabled as it's a GeForce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 which LR doesn't seem to like much.

The display is calibrated and has a dE around 1.0

The profile is definitely v2 as I've encountered the v4 problem before

I see what you are seeing in your screen clips but I just did a test with a mostly multi green shaded photo and did screen clips with the crop tool on and off and then brought the clips into Photoshop and aligned the layers and set the blending mode to difference and the result is about 99.999% black with a few little scattered speckles I don't know what that slight difference is but I could not see a difference by just clicking the layers on and off quickly. cc2015.9 and OS X 10.11.6. BTW, if you try this there seems to be a bug in Photoshop were the Align-layers command does not align very well the first time it is used. Align a second time and it seems ok. This bug seems to happen on a regular basis

It may be happening. I have defective colour vision and can't see a difference. Normally one doesn't try to work on colour issues while in crop mode, so it isn't likely to make a difference in practice.

I notice on my copy of LR that the image shrinks slightly when entering crop mode. Perhaps this has a subtle effect on colour balance.
