In Library, there is a Comments field in the right panel, below Metadata.  There is a note in it that states Comments not supported here?  What is this area for if it does not support comments?  I would like an area or comment space to enter names or locations of/in the photo?

Look in the EXIF or IPTC or the Combo of both EXIF and IPTC for fields to place that data.

You find that at the top of the Metadata section.

How will you be using the names or locations?  If this is solely for your own use within the LR catalog, you won't be cataloging thousands of pics, and you won't be sharing the pics with other software or Web sites, the Caption field is just fine.

But if you're cataloging thousands of pics and want to search for them later, or if you might be sharing the pics with other software or Web sites, you might consider using the metadata fields as defined by industry standards.

For locations, use the IPTC tag set of the Metadata panel (Sublocation, City, State, Country).

For people's names, use keywords.

Thank you, JSM. I am looking at the combined EXIF and IPTC fields in Metadata. Where do you suggest placing Comments? the Copy Name field? The title field? The Caption Field?

I do not see an area for Comments unless you are suggesting to use one of these fields as a work-around.

You can use any of those fields, it's your choice.

If you use a Publish service to upload your photos to a web site that allows comments (for example, Flickr), then the on-line comments will appear in this field.
