compact flash not recognized as media card

Hi,

my CFE press Type B is not recognized as media card, but as hard drive. Ant way to change this behavior?

any workaround (other than manually copying and then syncing the folder?)

if this is a windows “bug”, is there a feature in Lightroom in planning to
manually set flags for each device? Is there a setting / refistry hack in
Windows to fix it?

You do not need any workaround. You can still copy the images from the CFE card to your hard disk during import, just like with a 'normal' memory card. Just make sure you do not use 'ADD' at the top center of the import dialog, because that would just add the images to the catalog and not copy them from the CFE card to the hard drive.

Until (hopefully) this is fixed, you can continue to work as if this media card is treated like an HD, but one very important caveat! Use the COPY not MOVE command when importing. With a 'true' media card, there is no such option. Now there is and you don't want to move the images from the card, you want LR to copy it to HD, Import and leave the original as it was, just like if did have a flash card.

Apparently Microsoft (and Apple) are doing this because file access is many times faster this way due to how the drivers work apparently. These CompactFlash Express cards use technology based on PCIe 3.0 and NVMe which are typically used for internal and external SSD hard disks as the very fastest way to connect (apparently up to 2 Gbytes/s!). This is very different from the older sd cards and compactflash cards which use far slower technology.
