Question

Compatibility of Lightroom 4 (Disc version) with Mac Desktop (OS10.14 Mojave upgrade).

Hi.  Having just cancelled my Creative Cloud membership, held for 3 years (* at 65yrs old, retired and simply cannot justify the £119 annual expense & annually rising!), I have now uninstalled CC from my Mac H/Drive.

I am considering buying the Disc version of the newly available Lightroom 6, but currently holding off at the moment as there appears to be a degree of incompatibility  between the two systems which need to be resolved before I decide to buy.    In the interim, I'm thinking of loading up an older copy of Lightroom 4 (disc version) on to the Mac as a 6-12 months stop gap.

Could anyone advise me whether my older Lightroom 4 disc version would successfully run on my Mac desktop which has the latest OS10.14 Mojave system update?    I would rather know now, rather than have to uninstall at a later date.

Many thanks

Ian

The first thing that comes to mind is the Lr Classic cc Catalog file will not be compatible with either Lr 4 or 6. Have you been saving the metadata to.xmp? If you did then it would be possible to recover most of the work you performed in LR Classic when you recreate a new Catalog.

1. If you have a copy of v4, make sure you install the 64 bit copy, not the 32 bit. You can thank Apple for that.

2. V6 is not new, and note that the very very last update is 6.14. So, if you buy it off of Adobe, remember to go for 6.14.

3. What camera do you have? Is it supported in any of the versions you are considering? Are you willing to also purchase a third party RAW converter if not. What about future cameras? Lightroom 6 will never ever be updated past 6.14

Lightroom 4 was not designed (or tested) to work on Mojave. It might be a lot to ask for a software package that was released in 2012 (7-yrs ago) to function on software that was release in late 2018.

Many thanks. Fortunately I had exported my 9600 edited images to my MC drive before I uninstalled the CC package.

Exporting the images is not the same as saving the XMP as DdeGannes suggested.

Also be aware Lightroom 6.14 will never be updated including the issue that the Map Module quit working a couple weeks ago.
