copy/paste of adjustments did not work sometimes

Hi,

we found some very strange behavior of Lightroom the last time. We had worked long time with the old LR standalone application, due to new cameras, which are not any more supported in the old version, we did now change to LR Classic 8.3.1

We have a huge set of RAW files from a wedding. We have worked there with 2 photographers and 3 cameras. After importing all data into lightroom, we started to adjust the pictures. Within those adjustments we observed, that sometimes we copied the adjustment settings at one file and tried to paste into others, there was the progress bar for some time, but when we had a look there was nothing changed. Then we took one picture left, copied the exact same adjustment settings, pasted them to the other and everthing was fine. Afterwards we made the test, it's possible to paste the adjustments to all files, even the one we could not copy from. There is no real explanation we could find.

I do not expect that we do have a hardware issue, we are working with LR Classic 8.3.1 / ACR 11.3 and MS Win 10 Professional on a high class XEON workstation. The cameras are 3 Nikon D850, where we synced the adjustments in advance of the wedding.

It would be great, if anyone could help us with that issue. Thanks in advance.

Michael

Can you do this test... go to an older set of images perhaps prior to the 850 and see if you can copy and paste develop settings without issues happening?

Also have you tried to sync edits rather than copy/paste?

Hi cmgap,

unfortunatelly it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. But we did not observe this issue before. Syncing the values is not an option for us, due to the fact that we are doing often some minor adjustments and don't want to have that on the whole series.

A couple of troubleshooting questions:

- "but when we had a look there was nothing changed". How did you take a look - by examining the thumbnails in Library grid view or the filmstrip, or by taking one of the photos into Develop and looking at the sliders?

- Did the settings you were copying include Auto (what used to be called Auto Tone)?  Were you setting Auto via a develop preset when you first imported the photos?

Hi John,

the first was a visual look in the film strip, afterwards we had a look on the sliders, there is also no step in the history added to the pictures.

If we do use any auto adjustments, we are only looking at the values to get an impression what LR will do, go one step back and than adjust everything by our own.

If you copy/paste/sync/apply with a preset Auto to a large batch of photos, subsequent batch application of develop settings to those photos can be lost: Lightroom: Applying Auto Tone to a batch of photos loses subsequent develop settings | Photoshop Fam...So check that you hadn't first batch-applied Auto to the problem photos.

Given that you don't see the settings reflected in History, that indicates you may be not tripping over this bug. But something to be aware of.
