Corrupt file after editing in Topaz AI

New Here ,
Jan 01, 2025 Jan 01, 2025

After upgrading both Topaz AI and Lightrooom to their most recent versions I receive an error message in Lightroom Classic stating that the file is not compatible/corrupt. The TIFF file is rendered but instead of a photo, there is a blank gray box where the photo should be.  Has anyone experienced this and if so, could you recommend a fix.  Thanks @ Winding Path Photography

More details are needed.

Which Topaz AI?

What's the exact error message? Please post it word-by-word.

Do you use the appropriate LR plugin to send the image to Topaz? If yes, what happened if you open the image directly in Topaz and save it as a .tiff? Can you open it in a viewer and/or reimport the image in LR?

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 24H2 -- LR-Classic 14 - Photoshop 26 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 5 - Topaz PhotoAI 4

Make sure you have the most recent drivers for you GPU. (If it is an NVidia GPU then also make sure it is a Studio driver and not a game driver). Also, show us your hardware as shown in Help->System Info.

Make sure the original photo (not the TIFF) is not corrupted. (Open this photo in LrC Develop Module, if it looks correct then the photo is not corrupted). If it is not corrupted, then try Topaz AI on this photo a second time. If it still winds up corrupted, maybe you should contact Topaz AI.

If the original photo (not the TIFF) is corrupted, restore it from your backups.

I ran into something similar once after updating both Topaz Photo AI and Lightroom. In my case, the TIFF wasn’t actually corrupted, it simply didn’t display right in Lightroom.

A couple of quick checks:

  • Can you open the TIFF in another viewer like Photoshop or IrfanView?

  • In Topaz, are you saving as 16-bit TIFFs with ZIP or LZW compression? Lightroom sometimes trips on those settings.

  • Also, is the original RAW file showing fine in Lightroom's Develop module?

Tweaking the export settings in Topaz helped me fix the gray box issue. Curious if any of that helps on your end.
