Move and Add are only available when importing from a hard drive. Card imports only have the Copy options to prevent data loss from people using Add to add the files from a card that they're about to wipe and lose those files.

Check that you've given Lightroom Full Disk Access:

Thanks for that. I'm importing from a camera SD card. is there a way i can import without copying so i just add to import and edit straight from the sd card? becaus i think the copying is the issue

Not normally, and even in those rare cases when you can do this, leaving photos on camera cards rather than a hard disk is not a good idea.

Is that the entire error message, or was there additional text? Where are the photos you are trying to import — card reader, camera, hard disk, somewhere else? Have you tried other import methods such as importing from your hard disk, and using different hardware to do the import??

Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)? What version NUMBER?

This is what comes up when I want to import. im importing from a camera SD card with the apple sd card reader.

Theres no issue with the destination folder so im unsure why thus error message comes up.

So there was more information in the error message! Always good to give all the information in your first post.

When you say "no issue with the destination folder", exactly what did you check to say "no issue"? Also, earlier versions of LrC and predecessor Lr gave the error message you see when the problem was with the permissions on the source folder. What version NUMBER of Lightroom or Lightroom Classic are you using? How are you importing: ADD or COPY or MOVE?
