Crop Tool Default Lock/Unlock State?

Participant ,

The obvious way the "lock" on aspect ratio in the crop toiol should work is that it STAYS locked on the selected aspect ratio until the user unlocks it, regardless of the images you're editing. No, you shouldn't need to sync it across other photos.

The crop tool has NEVER worked correctly, and I've used every version of Lightroom. As far as I can tell, the lock means nothing and has no predictable behavior other then to reset itself when you need it to stay the same.

Has anybody found a workaround for this, since Adobe has a different idea of what a lock is than the popular definition?

In my experience, if the crop tool is in the lock position it will automatically default to the crop ratio of the image that has focus, NOT a preselected ratio. It has always worked that way, and I don't expect it will ever change.

What Jim has stated is correct .. and yes there are different perspectives on what could be used as default. However the wise minds in the team have concluded over a very long period that having the original aspect ration as default works in most situations and there is not a loud voice for change. You can always file a feature request though.

To change the default state of the Lock (Locked or Unlocked), you must go to a new image, choose the crop tool, then before adjusting the crop, change the Lock position to the desired state, and then crop the image. If you do this, the state locked/unlocked will be remembered until the next time you follow these steps.

But the original inquiry was to have the original ratio remembered. And I don't think that is a feature that is available or intended.
