Digital Foci Photo Safe II ext hd is not giving access to files. I got a dialogue box saying "D:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect" and "D:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready"'

Does anyone know what I can do to get to the files in this hd? I have hundreds of photo files on this device.

Is that a Lightroom Classic message?

Are you able to access the drive and see the files in Windows Explorer?

Does your Lightroom Classic Library know that the files are located on D:\ from a previous external drive with the D:\ designation?

I'm in File>This PC.  Have not tried it in Windows Explorer. I double click on the hd image. It has the hd image labeled as Local Disk D although it is not the built-in hd of the laptop which is labeled Local Disk C.

I'm not able to see the files. All I can see is the dialog box which states "Location is not available"  and below that  "D:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready". I neglected to include the "Location is not availale" in my original post.

My Lightroom Classic Library does not know where the files are located. I'm hoping to  import them.

Then, it does not have a proper connection to the computer. Is it fully charged or connected to power? That has nothing to do with Lightroom Classic. Try restarting the Foci, try a different cable. You will not ge that error when it is properly connected.

Find the files on the Foci in Windows Explorer, then make a folder on your regular hard drives. Then copy the files from the Foci to that new folder.  Import to Lightroom Classic from there. From what I read about the Foci, it's meant for portable use. I would not use it as a permanent external drive.

I found a review of the Digital Foci, which is a device that you can copy memory cards to it's internal drive. When attached to a computer, it is supposed to appear to the OS (Windows) as an external drive. It wasn't clear if it can be used as a external drive or if the best practice would be to copy the image files from the Digital Foci to another drive on your computer from where they could be properly imported into Lightroom Classic.

That's the device in the review you found. It imports photo files from your cards through its own card readers.

The instructions say to connect it to your PC thru the USB cord, as I have, and that it will function as an ext hd. And thus be importable into L.R.

If this device has worked well for years but is showing signs of trouble, have you run any Windows disk diagnostics on it to try and check for detected problems and maybe repair them? Or disk utility software such as CrystalDiskInfo or Spinrite?

So, have you now attempted to use it via Windows File Explorer?

Remember, LrC Folders Panel uses the OS file management. So it is important with such problems to see if the OS file management is having issues.

And if the OS File Manager can access that device, you could then copy the images from the device to the desired folder, then in LrC Import selecting ADD as opposed to Copy.

I was able to access the files now. I shut down the laptop and disconnected another ext hd that was connected. When the laptop restarted with only the Digital Foci Photo Safe II connected it was able to show the files.

Thanks to everyone for the help.
