Disappearing metadata panel

Can anyone explain why Lightoom Library on my Macbook Pro shows the metadat panel, but not on my iMac? I've screen shots if it wold help. Advice would be appreciated

  • Window menu > Panels > Metadata, or
  • Press Command + 4, or
  • Right click (Control-click) one of the other panel headings, like Histogram or Quick Develop, and choose Metadata from the context menu.
