The command "Edit in Photoshop" doesn't work with the new update or when reverting to a previous version. When I run that option, all it does is switch the window to Photoshop, and then nothing happens; it just stays there. Photoshop isn't frozen, and neither is Lightroom; nothing happens. Since updating to this version, I've encountered error after error. I have more issues, but the post would be too long.
Im running windows 10 with a fairly powerful system.

When the 'link' between Lightroom Classic and Photoshop has issues, the first step is to try this:
Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.
If this doesn't help the nest step is to reinstall both apps Lightroom and Photoshop. Please folloe the steps below:
1. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Client and uninstall both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. When asked, keep preferences!
2. Install Photoshop first and then Lightroom Classic. The right order is very important here!
If this doesn't help try the reinstallation with removing the preferences also.

I have also tried this solution, but it does not work. In the meantime, I am using the "edit in external editor" option and have selected Photoshop.exe, but please be aware that this is quite an awkward workaround for the issue.

I would suggest a complete and clean reinstallation.
Please follow the steps below:
if you're unable to install the cc desktop app at this stage, use an administrator account (solution 4 here, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-missing-damaged.html)
It's sound drastic and is a lot of work, but in my experiense a clean reinstallation helps to solve problems in many cases .

I would say that this is a long and tedious process that could disrupt my workflow with presets, plugins, and panels, as I would have to reinstall everything again, only to end up with the same issue. I would do it if I were certain that it would solve the problems, but based on previous experiences, I feel like it wouldn't fix the initial issue, and I would be left with the extra work of reinstalling an entire workflow that has been established over the years.

I understand that this is too much work for you, but this is not a general problem. It must be something to do with your local installation or your local computer. I also work with a Windows macine and with the latest versions of LR and PS. Since many years I don't have any problems with this function.
Do you work with Smart previews? In this case the original files must be available.
Do you have select only one image when you try the "Edit in Photoshop..." command?
Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.
Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.
Try resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html
It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

Another try is to create a new user account on your machine
