Entering the Digital age: Lightroom Shared Albums and “Smart” TV Displays

  • Background:  When smart TVs entered the makin stream cerca 2015 one feature that was offered was displaying photo albums.  Some service providers, such as AT&T, created a portal to provide such a service.
However, due to the success of Streaming services and “Apps”, it seems that most TV manufacturers and service providers have abandoned such capabilities in favor of streaming and Apps.
I have to purchase four 55-inch displays for a client that wants to display photos from different Lightroom Shared albums on the display.  Adobe does provide a “Photoshop Express Photo editor” in the “Google Play” store. However, this does not seem to support shared albums and it also puts a watermark on each of the images.
  • Questions:

Accessing Lightroom on the Web: Does anyone know a smart TV manufacturer that offers the ability to access the internet and enables the customer to enter the URL of a Lightroom Shared Album into the address bar?

  • Other approaches: Does anyone have any other ways to display a Lightroom shared album on a display?
Casting: I know that consumers can “Cast” from a phone to a Tablet to the display. However, that would require a person to stand close to the TV to do the casting and handle any issues if there was a disruption in the connection.  We want the customer to be able to access the Lightroom site from the TV and display the Lightroom Shared Album with no human required once it has been activated.

The process used to create the Albums:

  • 1) Destination Album: Create a Collection in Lightroom Classic/Right Click /Set as Target collection
  • 2) Source Folder: Go to the Source folder in Lightroom Classic/Select all images “(Control + A”)/press “B” and you receive a confirmation message
  • 3) Create Shared Album on the Web: Right-click the collection/Select “Lightroom Links” under “Private Links” and select “View on Web”. This opens a website with the pictures displayed in https://lightroom.adobe.com/
  • 4) Order Album: Three dots/Guide to Display view/Click the drop-down caret/ Click the drop-down caret AGAIN/reorder by file name
  • 5) Share: Click the person icon top right corner/Click Settings
    1. Download Settings: Click the settings you want, for example:
      Allow Downloads
      Show Metadata
      Allow comments and likes
    2. Get Link: Click the person icon top right corner/Get link/Select either “Anyone can view” or “Invite only”
    3. Display: Set how the images are displayed
    4. E-mail the link to the other people

You have posted in the Lightroom Classic forum, but I strongly suspect that you are using the cloud version of Lightroom, which is named "Lightroom". There are no albums in Lightroom Classic, but there are in Lightroom.

A moderator will move your post to the Lightroom ecosystem forum, which also includes Lightroom on the web.

Dear Per:

Thank you for your assistance.  Since we created the “album” using a “collection” in Lightroom Classic we posted it there. However, the album is located at https://lightroom.adobe.com/, part of the Lightroom Ecosystem, and it is called an “Album” on that screen.  One of the strengths of Lightroom is there are many ways to do the same thing.  However, that makes it difficult to decide where is the correct place to post.  I edited the original post to add our workflow at the bottom.  Thank you again for your kindness.
