Export collection to catalog and reimport extremely slow

We are using the latest version of Adobe Lightroom CC (2015.9 - Build 1106920) on Mac OS.

When we export a collection as a catalog to an external hard drive and work on that catalog on another computer (Picks and Ratings) and then try to reimport that catalog, it takes forever.

It used to be much faster. When I mean slow, the import of pictures can take a whole night.

Is there a better way to do it. All we do on the other computer is picking and rating images.

Also, is there a way to export a collection to a catalog with the publishing services settings?

What is the max size of images of a Lightroom catalog?

We use the function "Import from another catalog" as we only reimport the metadata and changes. So there is no "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates".@

Akash:

The master database has about 943315 images cataloged. The Lightroom database is on the primary drive. The original image files are distributed over 13 USB 3.0 hard drives. 

When we export single photo shoots (Somewhere between 200-1500 images), we export them to USB 3.0 external drives so we can edit them and let the client rate them.  Then we reimport them to the master database.

Do you have the option to turn off 'Don't Import Suspected Duplicates'? That would presumably stop the duplicate checking.

Hi Peter,

I would like to ask few questions:-

  • How many images does the catalog from the collection have?
  • Are you importing the image from an external drive or primary disk drive?

Now to answer all your questions, I would suggest take a look at Lightroom web where you can add a comment, rate, assign keywords to your images. See Learn to use Lightroom on the web
