Question

Export issues on Lightroom CC

Since lightroom CC got out we started getting complaints from our customers about errors when exporting.

Our plug-in is an export filter which optimizes JPEG images and a typical workflow would involve setting the "File setting" to JPEG at %100 and then our plug-in takes the JPEG and recompresses it.

So far, with lightroom 5, this worked wonderfully well but since lightroom CC was issued some users are complaining that after the export is finished Lightroom shows a dialog labeled "Export Results" and within it says "The file could not be opened. (1)" followed by a list of .cr2 files or other files.

The problem is not specific to certain files - if the user pickes the failed files and tries to export only them then no errors occour

The problem is probably specific to our plug-in because when our plug-in is removed from the workflow, no errors occur

So far we could not reproduce this on our side but I'm wondering if anybody else saw these issues and also would love to hear any tips on troubleshooting this issue.

Also, we did some tests with lightroom 6, is that equivalent to lightroom CC?

Thanks in advance,

Eyal

I turned-off the Telstra Virus checker and it seems to have worked and when I turn it on the export works, file gets created but is not accessable

I have this problem with both my laptop and desktop with OS X.  It turns out it is my antivirus causing the problem.  When I turn off the AV, Lightroom exports properly.  I've searched all over for a solution but the only way I can export without turning off the AV is to move the file to Photoshop and then export.  Or...turn off the AV until done saving the new file.

PS:  My AV is Trend Micro.

This forum is for developers of LR plugins.  I suggest reposting your issue in the main LR forum, where you're more likely to get help quickly.

Same issue!  Interesting note in my case, it's repeatedly 103 of the 230 files I was trying to export to a thumb drive.  Not sure if it was the same 103, but there seemed to be no rhyme or reason which ones did not export (when I reviewed in "Photos That Failed to Export").  Some were edited; some were not.  Some were picks; some were not.  All had GPS (as did the ones that succeeded).  Different folders (some exported from each folder; some were not).

This thread was originally about a plugin's interactions with export; now it's about problems with export not specific to a plugin.  Since this forum is for developers of Lightroom plugins and has a small audience, you're not likely to get much response. If you repost your issue to this bug report in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom 6: Does not export all selected images, you're more likely to get help and the attention of Adobe.

I am having this issue constantly with Lightroom CC on my Windows 7 pro 64 bit machine. It is a real nuisance. I also can save for web with photoshop and get a better file at a smaller size than I can get with Lightroom. This is causing me real problems with workflow.

Make sure you don't have any file viewers or utilities open that might try to access the photos in the export folder: Bridge, File Explorer, other photo viewers, Windows Photo Gallery.   A LR bug causes it to hiccup if one of those programs is accessing the folder during the export.   Even backup utilities and Windows Search Indexing could trigger the bug.

Thanks John. I'll see if I can figure out what is triggering it. Thanks for your reply.

This is a problem that many people are having with LR 6 export, and it doesn't appear to be specific to particular plugins (though that's my surmise on current reports).  Please add your vote and opinion to this topic in the official Adobe feedback forum to make it more likely Adobe will prioritize a fix: Lightroom 6 does not export all selected images.  And encourage your clients to do likewise.   Also, please continue discussion there so everyone benefits.

Thanks for your reply. The issue looks similar but one thing is puzzling - I'm getting consistent reports that removing our plug-in also removes the issue.

Also, can you comment maybe on the difference (if any) between LR 6 and LR CC?

From the reports, it appears to be some kind of timing-dependent race condition in the export.  Removing your export plugin might affect the timing significantly.

There are two differences between LR 6 and LR CC:  The licensing and the inclusion of LR Mobile with LR CC.  Other than that, they're supposed to be identical.
