Export presets eliminate map and keywords

Explorer ,
Aug 27, 2023 Aug 27, 2023

I have looked but cannot find any info on this issue I am having.  Basically there is a conflict between my export presets (my name, copyright, metadata, etc.) and my map and keywords.  It seems that when I apply my export preset it strips out my keywords and also eliminates my map location, so that when I export to Flickr there is nothing in the way of keywords or map location.  However, if I do NOT apply my export preset (or map) the keywords are retained.  I have the latest version of lightroom, 12.5.  My only theory is that it may have something to do with the fact that I have recently transferred my entire catalog to a new laptop, and maybe there is a hidden conflict.  Or I am going crazy.

Double-check that the settings of the preset are allowing the keywords and location metadata to be exported:

1. Do File > Export.

2. In the Preset panel, click on the preset (not the checkbox). That will display the preset's current settings.

3.  In the Metadata panel on the right, make sure that it says Include: All Metadata and that Remove Person Info and Remove Location Info are unchecked.

If that doesn't help, in the Export window's Preset panel, right-click the preset and do Show In Finder. Make a copy of the selected .lrtemplate file, change it's extension to ".txt", and attach it to your reply here.

Thanks, but I think the advice you are giving me applies to export presets which appear under the File menu.  I am having trouble with the metadata in presets from the Map menu.

Your description is conflicting and unclear.  Are you referring to Saved Locations in the Map module (which don't apply keywords), or something else?

You'll need to give a more precise step-by-step description of what you're doing, using the terminology in the LR app.   Full-resolution screenshots of the entire LR window (not phone pics, not of just portions of the window) can often help.

Sorry for the confusion but I've made it as clear as I can.  The keywords which I apply in the Library module are stripped out if I apply a map location in the Map module. The Map module is also where I have created my custom export presets, including copyright, address, etc.  This problem only cropped up when I changed laptops and transfered my catalog over. Somehow these elements are in conflict.  I will come back with a screenshot later. Thanks for your help.

I think I've solved it.  This guy provided a clue, i.e. uncheck the "keyword" box in the metadata preset.  Checking the keyword box seems to clear out any applied presets, counterintuitively.  Here's hoping.

What I meant to say: "Checking the keyword box seems to clear out any applied keywords, counterintuitively.

You can't make export presets in the Map module. Are you referring to metadata presets that you apply in the Metadata panel, which is also available in the Library module?

(The requested full-resolution screenshot of the entire LR window would have cleared things up so much quicker.)

If applying a metadata preset is clearing the keywords you've previously applied to the photo, that is because you've checked Keywords when you defined the preset.  Click the Preset drop-down menu in the Metadata panel and select Edit Presets. Then select the relevant preset and scroll down to the Keywords section.  Uncheck Keywords.

If applying the metadata preset is clearing other fields that you don't want it to, then see if those fields are checked in the preset as well.

Yes, I have obviously been remiss, wasting your valuable time, guilty as charged. You've been helpful.  Thank you.  Sorry to put you to all that trouble.  And extra sorry that my terminology has been so utterly confusing to you.  Again, thanks for the help.  Problem solved, one way or another!

"Checking the keyword box seems to clear out any applied keywords, counterintuitively."

Note that when you check Keywords, the caption says "leave blank to clear":

When Keywords is checked, the preset will replace any previous keywords on the photo with whatever you've typed in that box.  And as the caption indicates, if you leave the box blank, then the keywords will be replaced with "blank".  That's useful in situations where you want to clear existing values from fields.
