Exporting Tiff and JPEG Simultaneously Onto Desktop ( I don't want this to occur)

As of yesterday, when I export a tif file to my desktop, it is now creating a folder titled "2024" and exporting the tiff file(s) to it while also exporting the jpeg (w/watermark) to my desktop directly. Prior to yesterday, I was able to just export the jpeg to my desktop.

How do I remedy this situation?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

What file type, and where, is the image that you are exporting this JPG copy from?

Is that (for example) a camera Raw or a camera JPG, or is this the "the TIFF" that you have referred to? I have never encountered an Export action changing the folder location of the original source file concerned; altering the folder location of any file that already existed, for that matter.

Export makes new files (or otherwise overwrites in-place).

You have also mentioned an IMPORT action and this did seem as if it may be directing to this same Desktop \ 2024 location. So a little more clarification would help please.

I thought of a couple situations that might cause an export to go to the desktop, especially if you originally set a different export destination but it somehow got reset to the desktop.

1. The intended folder no longer exists or was moved or renamed.

But I guess this shouldn't be a problem if you just chose that folder in the Export dialog box a moment ago, because a folder can only be selected if it's actually there by that name.

2. The intended folder has a problem with permissions.

Check the intended folder and make sure it is not set to Locked or Read Only (you can do this in the Finder using File > Get Info), and if it's on another volume, make sure macOS has permissions to write to that volume (you can do this in System Settings / Privacy and Security / Files and Folders).

These ideas come from having seen that other applications can put items on the desktop if there is a problem with the destination folder. For example, in the macOS Finder, if I select three files in a folder and use the command File > Compress to create a .zip archive of them, if they were in a read-only folder or volume, the .zip archive can’t be written there so macOS creates the new .zip archive on the Desktop where it does have write permission. I wonder if there is a similar cause here, in at least some of the cases.

@Conrad_CI appreciate your feedback. As I mentioned initially, prior to this "bug", I was simply able to export a jpeg image to my desktop.

Now, not only does that happen, but a folder also appears with a "2024" label and inside of that folder is the tiff file. That tiff file no longer appears in its original folder, as an example "Cape Cod". So, I have to drag the tiff from the new folder on the desktop back into its original location.

I am hoping that once I am able to update to the latest version of Lr (new equipmemt soon), that this problem will remedy itself.

Which version of Lightroom do you use?

Which version of MacOS do you use?

Which export settings do you use? If possible show us the settings in a screenshot.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 25H2 -- LR-Classic 15 - Photoshop 27 - Nik Collection 8 - PureRAW 6 - Topaz Photo AI

Good Morning "AxelMatt",

Thank you for your help.

To answer your questions:

Which version of Lightroom do you use?

Which version of MacOS do you use?

Which export settings do you use? If possible show us the settings in a screenshot.

Then the following appears on my desktop in order of appearance:

Then, I have to drag the file out of that folder and return it to its original folder. So uneceassary, and frustrating, to say the least!

NOTE: I will be purchasing a new computer (MAC) in the upcoming months.

Thank you again, I hope that you can help me out.

Be Well,

~Angelo

As I see in your export settings the export location is set to "/Users/Owner/Desktop/2024"

So I think it's normal that there's a 2024 folder onto your desktop.

But everything else doesn't fit together.

What has been changed on your system before the issue occour?

Try resetting the preferences of Lightroom Classic:  How to reset Lightroom Classic preferences (adobe.com)

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

As of yesterday, when I export a photo to my desktop, it now also creates a folder with the tiff files inside that were imported along with the JPEG file (w/watermark). Before that, the export was just the JPEG, as I intended and wanted. (see screenshot attached).

In my "ignorance" the first time that this occurred, I deleted the folder on my desktop, only to find out afterwards that I deleted the tiff files as well. So, I had to go back to square one to reprocess the raw file. UGH!!!

I am quite sure that I did not alter any of the settings, so I am perplexed why this is occurring all of a sudden.

How can I reset my settings so that the export will return to my original intent?

I am grateful in adavnce for any and all insistence.

~Angelo

Hi, thanks for reaching out to the Adobe Community!

Could you check if the option to Put in Subfolder is checked in the Export window?
