Face detection - INDEXING

Hi,

Does anyone know if the 'Faces in Photos' indexing runs perpetually in LR?

I don't mean whether it can be paused, or set to go when you decide. Does it index every image, get to 0 photos then, each time LR is closed and opened, do the whole operation all over again? Does it constantly index faces?

I am a photojournalist and have over 750k images going back to 1999. As most of my photography is people-based I'm sure I have probably a couple of million faces. It finds all faces in crowds at sport events and protest! I'm running LR11.0.1 on a work laptop with one master catalog and after a three quater million images (over a few days indexing, left running), it got to zero and now has started the operation all over again after restart, without any input from myself.

Frustrating!

Thanks

Ben

You can turn off face detection by clicking on the identity plate in the upper-left corner:

It's a pretty bad UI design -- who would know to click there unless they accidentally hovered the mouse over it?

Thanks John. I understand this function already, but it's helpful.

I'm specifically asking if Face Detection runs perpetually, as from experimentation it keeps indexing thousands of images, but does not become more intelligent in picks.

It normally doesn't re-index photos it has already indexed, only new ones added to your catalog.
