Failed to find a place for the imported file error. Only happened with Raw files

Hi,

I just upgraded my lightroom to 8.1 as it supports Fujifilm xt3. However, I somehow couldn't import my raw files and got error said 'Failed to find a place for the imported file error.', the jpeg files in the same folder worked fine though.

I have tried new catalog, different catalogs, changing file names, changing folder location and they haven't been worked out so far.

Any helps is appreciated.

Thank you!

Just got this solved after setting Read&Write to all folders the LR touches on and somehow it worked (not sure why).

Thank you for all the responses!

Hi! I am having the same issues. Can you elaborate on how you can to a solution? Thanks!

Hmm, thought dropbox was free. Was going to share a RAF from my X-T3 as to allow you to test a RAF not from yur camera or SD card.

However, searching the we=b, I see that examples are available. Found one at:

    RAW - Google Drive

Saved it to my PC, imported a copy into LR, and it does report in the metadata as from an X-T3.

Can you import this? or still the same error? This would avoid in camera issues, any SD card issue.

Ah, testing after my posting, I see the link brings up several images, I tested the first one.

    Thank you!

I just tried the raw file above and it gave the same error. So I also tried my old XT1 raw file (which worked before in LR CC 2015) and I got the similar error as well. Now I guess it's more like importing raw files in Classic CC in general error rather than specific XT3 issue. Will try to play around with it.

    Thanks!

If you have a Dropbox account you could #hare a RAF for others to attempt an import on using their catalog and computer

And probably final for tonight, have you considered resetting the preferences file?

Thank you for all the replies!

Yes, I tried resetting the preferences file earlier.

    Just so odd.

still recommend you try a new catalog just to rule out a corrupt catalog.

as another member mentioned, a improper file name can be an issue, Niw this might involve a bit of metadata not just the obvious file name. Perhaps use a metadata viewer to explore

Not sure if the bad file name issue could be worked around if you renamed during export. I do nit see how this could be.

By by the way, another fall back when scratching ones head on these import issues, have you tried a different SD card? (Remember RAF files more complex than JPEG files) rarely does this solve anything.

sounds like time to call Adobe. (Google on call Adobe support)

Chatty again, what happens if you create a new catalog and try?

Gosh I am chatty, Moved to PC, Internet working better than on the iPad (self inflected wound I think)

    An odd test to attempt.

Copy the RAF images to another directory on your hard drive. (well, actually you might be able to test this without this step, but perhaps do so anyhow)

In Lightroom attempt the import, this time selecting Copy (or Move if you like, personally I never trust move, what if something goes really really wrong). And select a location in your catalog to move it to. Point is to not do an Add to catalog and to specify where the images gets placed. If that fails, try another location (folder).

Thanks for the suggestion! I have tried with screenshots as below but still see the same error.

    1. Choose 'Copy' option and select a new location (I created a new folder for this). I import same picture with same name JPEG + RAF.

    2. JPEG was imported fine. The raw file got the error.

While you are back in the Library module, how about a screenshot of the Folders Panel.

Incidental, I am not having this problem on my MAC Book (Sierra) with X-T3.

What happens in Lightroom, when in the Folders panel, you right click on the folder the RAF files should be in, and select synchronize folder?

Synchronizing the folder would import all JPEG files in that folder only, and the raw files would give the error:

From that last screenshot (in Develop module) I take it that once you dismiss that error screen, the Import continues, and that status up left top, completes?

hmm, the reply from Just Shoot Me, reminds me of a question (or two)  I failed to ask.

    1. Are you importing the images from the SD card? or did you first copy them to a hard drive?

1b. If you first copied them to a hard drive, did you rename them at all?

    2. Are you saving the RAF files to the same location as the JPEG files?

In the Import dialog take a look at what folder you have selected in the Destination section of the right hand panel. It is probably set to a folder that your user name does not have Write access to. You need to select a different folder or change the permissions on the folder that is selected.

    Thanks for the reply!

Not sure if you mean this one:

It's the catalog I'm using I believe. I have made the access to Read&Write for every users to check and it still gave the same error. FYI that JPEG files from the same folder (and to the same folder) are loaded successfully.

Let me know if you think there is anything else I should try.

    Thanks!
