File Not Found when I remove SD card

Hi,

I've searched the forum and I can't find the exact answer to this question.  I'm on an iMac with Sierra 10.12.6 installed.

I imported photos last night into Lightroom and began developing.  I removed the SD card to use it again and immediately a pop up window came up that said "This File could not be found."  I've been using Lightroom for years, but this just began to happen intermittently (twice or three times in two months) when I purchased my new Mac.  If I copy the files to my desktop and then import them I don't have the issue.

Thanks in advance.

I figured it out.  I had it set to add to catalog without moving them.  Should have been set to Copy and Add.

If you mean that you are trying to edit the images while they are still on the SD card, that is not how Lightroom is designed to work. In fact on a Windows computer I don't believe it will allow you to do that. The images need to be on your hard drive. You should actually import those images and place them in a folder on your computer. Lightroom will recognize that they have been imported and will not import them again if you choose the appropriate option in your import preferences.

I import the files into Lightroom from the SD Card. I've done it like this for as long as I've owned Lightroom.  Most times the files get written to the HD when they are imported and I can safely remove the card.   I can't always do that now.
