Problem - Lightroom Classic 12.5 freezes up on launch on MacOS Sonoma on a MacBook Pro M2
FIX - deleting the Lightroom Classic preferences solved the problem
To delete, launch Lightroom Classic while holding the Shift and Option keys.
A dialog comes up to delete preferences, click yes.
In my case LRC updated my catalog (for some reason picked on older one, probably it was in the default path, as I had set up a different one in prefrences). This took a long while, enough for Adobe chat support to time out.
After that LRC seems to work fine, I opened a recent back up and I am now updating the newer photos.
Adobe support - I think I can get the old preferences file from my backups if you need it to debug
Based on many fruitless discussions with Adobe support I tried rolling back to an older version, 12.4, as well as emabling/disabling Rosetta - both to no avail. Deleting the preferences did it.
I wisk Adobe would do a better job acknoledging that there is an issue and providing a script to its support folks. Also, the warning should be more explicit to not upgrade and they should proactively reach out to their Mac users letting them know not to upgrade - I get a lof of ads/spam from Adobe, why not proactively protect your Mac users with useful info?
