Spent a couple hours going through a large catalogue, hand selecting individual images to flag for later reference. Closed the catalogue, copied it, saved in a backup folder as I was planning to run the "tagged" images through imagenai. Open lightroom again, no flags saved. Very frustrated and disappointed at all that time wasted. Would like to avoid this in the future. Can anyone tell me why this has happened and how to avoid?
I agree with @AxelMatt - likely with opening and closing catalogs, you might have chosen the wrong one. The "conventional" workflow with Lr Classic is to have a single catalog that is always "Open" so that every time you start Lr Classic, you are seeing the same catalog. Of course, multiple catalogs is an option, but you have to be in top of your game and understand Lr Classic's catalog file handling, to manage that workflow.

Hello, by flag you mean those ? They are kept if you close LrC. So I would assume the problem is elsewhere

Normally flags, color lables rankings were saved automatically when LR was closed.
Which catalog was opened on starting Lightroom again? Is it sure that's the same in which you had set the flags?
