I want to stress that I did nothing wrong. I was just sitting here. Tried to import some pix like I've done a thousand times before. Apperently, I'll never do it again.
I'm using Lightroom classic 12.1 on a severely underpowered Mac desktop. Disc is less than half full.
When I'm just looking at Lightroom, everything looks fine. My folder structure is intact, the pictures are where they are supposed to be, I can export, all is well with the world.
Let me explain my normal import procedure: When I first click "import," most times a new page appears that goes back to the origins of Mac. Sometimes, expecially if I've been importing a lot lately, I'll enter farther along the process. But usually I fo back to the beginning.
I see two Mac HDs. One says Mac HD-Data (where all the action is) the other just says Mac HD. I open the Data disc and I see applications(?) system(?) and users. I click on users and my name shows up. I click on my name > desktop > and everywhere that a photo might be appears. If I have a card plugged into the back, that will be there. My desktop folders are there. And I can proceed as normal.
Now, when I click on my name, nothing happens. The structure that has always been there before is gone. There's no way to import anything. I made no unusual moves, I swear.
One slightly unusual thing has happened maybe 2-3 times and I feek that I should mention it on the off chance that one of them has something to do with this problem: I import something and the computer tells me something like: "You pictures file is full. Would you like to import into the photo folder?" I click yes, everything works swell, I never give it another thought.
Note that since this has happened, I've opened everything besides the Data file and the Users folder but that hasn't helped.
I've lived a good clean life. My conscience is clear. Why do bad things happen to good people?
