Question

getting error "you'll need to provide administrator permissions to copy this file" when pasting user presets in Lightroom CC

Hi all

i know there have been a few posts about importing presets in o LR, but i haven't seen anything to help me.

The problem i'm having is i recently bought a new computer, on my old computer i copied the "Develop Presets" folder to an external drive.

I installed LR CC and went to copy the contents of my backed up User Presets folder in to "C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets" on my new machine. HOWEVER when i try and paste them in i get the error "You'll need to provide administrator permissions to copy this file", i click continue then get "You require permissions from DELL-T3600\USER(my current PCname and user account) to make changes to this file, i press Try again and it just keeps presenting the same error.

Can anyone please help because these preset were pretty important to me.

Thanks

i think i know the reason , the template files are encrypted for some reason

and i cant seem to disable encryption

despite having full access

any ideas? ive never seen this before when backing up data from one machine to another

Sorry for your dilemma with this broken workflow for you, but it looks like a permissions problem most definitely .

Are you networked to the other PC through intranet or internet?

The former might be easier to solve if you have an IT relationship . . .

Could we have a cropped screen shot?

Im not networked to it but i can power it on, BUT i have uninstalled all adobe products from this machine to reinstall it on this PC (It is installed on my work laptop too). so i am unsure if the develop presets folder will still be there?

i will have a look tonight

Hi Boatgoat1982,

Sorry that you're getting an error that says you need admin privileges to copy presets to a required folder. That shouldn't be happening. Let us help make this right.

It seems that your preset file or preset set is apparently owned by another user or group on the computer.

Right-click on the file or maybe the folder the presets are in(C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets"), choose Properties, then Security, and click through the tabs and options to see how the owner of the file is.  If you are truly an Administrator on the computer and that Administrator has rights to the folder the files are in then you should be able to change ownership to yourself or at least the Administrators group you're hopefully a member of.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Akash

Hi Akash

I have taken control of both the destination and source folder and given "Users" full read write access to these folders, yet i still get the error.
Thanks
