getting photos from iPhoto's iCloud to Lightroom

After talking to my sister about Lightroom (Classic) she's decided to try it. So I went over to her house today and she has been using iPhotos and now Photos but her images are not ON her computer. It appears they are all in iCloud.

So my question is what is the best way to get the image from iCloud into her Lightroom Catalog and also to get the images onto her computer?

I'm fairly experienced in Lightroom but I've no knowledge or experience with iPhotos or Photo and I do not want to just randomly do things that might cause issues later. Think of moving images in a Lightroom catalog in the Finder, not within Lightroom. I do not want to do something just as wrong in iPhotos/Photos.

Thanks for any help and/or pointing me to the right place.

She's using an older iMac but it does have Mojave as the OS.

Photos has an ‘Export Original’ option. That will copy the original plus metadata to a local folder of your choice. Then import that folder into Lightroom.

There has been some evidence that using a third-party cloud storage option can work, and I think that might suit your needs from the details you have provided.

eg: Dropbox has a local copy and synced cloud copies of all your Lightroom images and edits and therefore provides a lossless workflow.

    Hi Tony_See,

Interesting idea but as I wrote above, what she's doing now does seem to be working for her.

    Thanks.

    Hi Johan,

thanks. I’ll swing by my sister‘s (hopefully) tomorrow and look for that. From there I should be good.
