High Price for Lightroom. Locked by Moderator.

Hello,

I'm not a professional photographer. I use Lightroom Classic CC to work with my personal photo archive and the cost of 299 rubles per month I was quite satisfied. The cost of 644 rubles per month looks already extremely overpriced. I don't make money from photography, but it's been my hobby for years. Tell me which Adobe product or any other company I can use.

    It’s too expensive!!!

I can’t budget $9.99 US per month for this product. That’s $119.88 USD per year which is $160 Canadian!

Even if I process 100 photos per year, that’s $1.60 per photo and I only will, realistically, process between 3 and 5 photos!! That’s $32 per picture with a commitment to keep paying if I use the program or not.

This product pricing is INSANE!  Why are you doing this?  I have to search for an alternative program now and re-learn. I own a copy of Lightroom 5.7.1 and I’m gong to have to keep using it.  I would have been willing to pay an upgrade price for new features but I am NOT in a financial position to be able to commit $160/year on a perpetual basis.

Also, you need to take global pricing into consideration.  $119.88 for a U.S. customer is MUCH different than $160 CDN.  The purchasing power of a dollar in Canada and U.S. is about the same (i.e. a hamburger costs $5 USD when you’re in the U.S. and $5 CDN when you’re in Canada) – that means that you are, effectively, charging us 32% more for your product because we are Canadian.

Shame on Adobe for abandoning loyal customers like this by pricing it beyond our ability to pay.

The link below will provide info on the two plans that provide Lightroom applications for the US$9.99 that you consider too expensive for the features offered.

Information contained at that link provides details as to the features being offered and you should review whether you need all these features or the majority of them. If you are not likely to utilise these features then indeed you would consider the asking price to be excessive.

If you are using a camera model that is not supported by your LR 5.7.1 and you are shooting raw captures which need the processing ability for a newer version of Lightroom then there two options available. (a) Upgrade to Lightroom 6.14 which is the last perpetual license available at US$79. If your camera model is not supported by this version of Lightroom then try (b) Download the latest Adobe DNG Converter version 10.4, which is a free standalone application which can convert the raw files to the DNG format.

... they ought to just use their iPhone and forget about ANY software.

First of all, I don't own a smartphone (like as in I actually don't own a smartphone) so I am surprised that they take RAW images to start with.  Second, although I didn't specify my use-case, you make an assumption I'm using Lightroom to process snappies of the cats drinkng from the toilet or something.  Not so.  My uses are much more as a casual artist and a few other use-cases.

Some people just like to make noise and complain and try to get others to feel sorry for them. This has to stop sometime.

Some people might do that; however, I do hope you're not attributing that comment in any way whatsoever to my posting as that couldn't be further from the truth.  I'm actually very capable of finding an alternative product or continuing to use 5.7.1 for now.  I don't seek or require your or anyone else's sympathy.  In fact, this has nothing to do with me, specifically.  The topic is Adobe's pricing, not anything to do with me.  Hopefully you can follow-up with a productive comment -- for example a constructive idea that I/we can feedback to Adobe for increasing their customer base to include those who have been currently excluded on price -- or step out of the discussion if you only have snarky, insulting remarks to make.

At OttToyBoy, I just wish to digress from the issues of the original post. I am in my 75th year and I began using my first PC in 1985, the operating system was run from a floppy 5.5 inch disk, here was no internet available at that time. A few years later I upgraded to a new model which had a 5 MB hard disk (yes Mega Bites not GB) now we only talk of TB.

Now to my camera equipment, I purchased a Canon SLR E1 in 1978 as my first serious camera for shooting then with 35mm film and replaced this with a Canon F1 New (this was the top of line Canon model at the time) in 1982. There were no auto focus lenses in those days so my lenses were Canon FD mount.

Several years later Canon introduced a new SLR system EOS (electronic operating system) with auto focusing lenses! Guess what different lens mount, my top of the line Canon camera model was now a dinosaur. I utilised my camera for 17 years and at that stage there were "what" digital cameras so in 1999 I decided to sell all my film camera equipment and purchase a digital camera, my equipment was in pretty good shape so I think I sold it for more than the original purchase price.

So into the digital world, because of my experience with Canon when they discontinued their FD lens mount I switched to Olympus and am presently using an Olympus OMD E-M1.

So were are we going with the software the technology just keep moving on and the obsolete items get sent to the trash.

See the screen captures, where do you think we are going when you see the screen captures below. What will happen to HDD's will we be dependent on the cloud for storage.

In addition there are more smart phones with excellent camera capable functions than Digital Cameras being sold.
