Question

how can I import images in folders into lightroom classic

When I shoot for image stacks I have my camera save to individual folders. Is ther any way to have LRc import the raw files in their separate folders to make processing and locating so much easier? Searched high and low and can't find an answer.

Thanx.

If you used Windows, you might be able to use Downloader Pro (which I use) to offload camera card to disk with specific names & folders.  While I have not used this, it seems to have 'tokens' to use to create them based on card folders.

In the import dialog Destination pane, you can setup if and how Lightroom Classic should create subfolders (like dated subfolders). There is an option to use the existing subfolders from the memory card.

This is indeed in the Destination options as a dropdown next to 'Organize'. I don't recall the exact wording but one first picks an existing target folder; optionally chooses a new subfolder's name to be made inside that; then the choices for how the imported files are to go inside this destination are:

  • all into the one folder;
  • as auto dated subfolders (to a chosen scheme);
  • as new subfolders to match however the images may be organised within the source.

These three choices are mutually exclusive. The first two options disregard any subfolders present in the source.

For the third option, one would AFAICT, for this use-case, NOT want LrC to disregard camera-made folders.

Right! So I did remember it correctly, but you have to turn off the option in the preferences in order to get to see that third option under 'Organize' in the Import dialog.
