Question

how do you select files for import through a normal file explorer?

In LR classic, when I click import, to import files, my left pane contains a tree view of my "drives".  The only way I have found to import files using this tree is to tediously click through hiercharies to get where my pictures are.  If you have highly organized and deep folder system, this is a royal pain to do.  Worse the pane size seems to be fixed so after a certain depth, right most of the folder names become truncated by the edge of the pane, so you can't even see what folders they are.  I can't find anywhere that I can simply paste in a folder path into something like a normal windows like explorer.

How can you select to import files without having to tediously start from your root drive and navigate the entire file system?

Such a deep file tree is a disadvantage for using Lightroom Classic. Better would be to flatten the folder tree somehow. My file tree does not start several folders deep, it starts at the root level, I have a folder named "Photos" and then suybfolders named by year and the capture date, example D:\Photos\2022\2022-10-18

Yes you can simply drag a folder of images from File Explorer onto the Import central screen, and the files will populate the Import screen.
