How to revert the catelog from LR Classic CC trial to LR 6

I tried out LR Classic cc trial.  I did a fair amount of work in it, and decided I want to go with LR 6.  How can I convert LR Classic catalog to LR 6?  I would hate to do all that work over again.

I have searched the Internet for an answer to this question, without success.  Perhaps someone here knows the answer.

I have locality name keywords nested.  When I look at the keywords for an image in Lr 6, "for Zions National Park", "Utah", I now have "Utah" repeated with an "<" pointing from Utah to Zions National Park.  It was not like that in Lr Classic.  It just showed each place separated by commas like all the other key words, while the nesting is shown in the keyword list section.  What does this "<" mean?

The  < indicates that the left side keyword is nested within the right side keyword.

Perhaps you have the dropdown menu set differently in the Keywording dialog box, that's why it appears differently.

Sorry, it cannot be done. Catalogs are not backward compatible.

The only workaround you have might be to-

    1) In the Trial version- Save metadata to all the files edited in the trial version [Ctrl+S],

    2) Open Lr6 with the catalog that was saved when you upgraded a copy for the Trial.

    3) Import the 'new' photos, and Read metadata from files.

At best you will see the photos as edited in the Trial except for any of the new features in Classic (eg. Range Mask). You will not get editing History either for 'new' photos imported with Lr-Classic.

    Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

Thank you for your response.  I am not sure I fully understand the process.  Can you add more detail to the process?

I have LR 6 loaded and looking at the photos prior to the edits I did in LR Classic.  I need help in understanding exactly how to do what Robert said.

In LR all edits are saved to the Catalog file. There is an option in the Catalog Settings, Edit menu item > Catalog Settings, On the Metadata tab, to "Automatically write changes to XMP" . You can check that, Select all images you have made changes to since using LR C CC and then Ctrl + s  or Metadata menu item Save Metadata to File option.

That will write all the changes to a XMP file in the same folder as the original file.

Once you revert back to LR 6 and you import all your new images or view the older images that you made changes to in LR C CC you will see a upward facing arrow with 3 lines next to it. Clicking that icon will bring up a dialog box where you have 3 options.

    Import setting from disk.

    Overwrite settings.

    And Cancel.

You would select Import Settings from Disk.

That will read the XMP file and apply the edits you made in LR C CC, excluding edits that aren't available in LR 6, to the those images.
