How to update to Windows 21H1

Lightroomers,

I am using version 10.4 (or 10.0.18362) of Windows 10. The Cloud app tells me my system is incompatible

with the new LR v. 11.0. When I go to Update Windows, the option to update to 21H1 is not there. The video says that Adobe is telling me the system is not ready. Nothing more specific. What do I do now?

Lets walk this thru one step at a time.

 

On your computer, you click on the start icon, bottom right, you click on the settings icon, you click on Update & Security, this shows Windows Update.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Take a screen capture.

 

Post that in a reply.

    I hope this helps. In the meantime, something was updated overnight and
    today I could upload LR v 11.0.1! I don't know precisely what happened but
    it is working and I am pleasantly surprised. If you have any insights
    please help me out here.

    At richardg, sometimes when you get behind on Win OS updates you may need to bring things uptodate though many individual updates and restarts and it can be time consuming and frustrating. Been through that several times. Not a one and done pass.

    If your internet connection is via Wi-Fi to a modem ensue you are as close as possible to the modem so you have the best connection and speed, if there are several individual updates do them individually so they no not time out. When doing updates monitor the progress, sometimes you may have to restart your system to complete a particular update.

      If I find a Windows device which needs lots of updates, I usually allow at least an hour and many restarts.

       

      Just when you think you've finished the last update, a single key update may then unlock a further avalanche of updates.

      Yes John W, I manage my wifes PC and her car she is great at filling the gas tank not much else.

      We are both in our mid 70s.

        Not sure what 10.4 refers to. Sounds like build 18362 (aka 19H1) released May 2019.

        21H1 is not a fixed requirement to run Classic 11.x. You just need build 1909 (aka 19H2) - released Nov 2019 - or later.

        Can you update Windows beyond 18362 (19H1) at all?

        What is shown in Start > Settings > System > About?

         

        Are you running a retail version of Windows or an Enterprise LTSC version?

        Hi John,
        There was an attempt to update Windows to 20H2 but that ultimately failed.
        My version is from my subscription to LR/PS which must make it retail.
        On the help menu in LR it states that my version of W10 is 10.4.
        Somewhere along the line I saw that this version was 1903. Does that mean
        that I am screwed and that my version of Windows cannot be updated?

        I suspect it says you're running Lightroom Classic 10.4 on Windows 10 Version 1903 (which is Build 18362).

         

        10.4 requires Win 10 Version 1903 or later.

        11.x requires Win 10 Version 1909 or later - hence it will not install on your system without a Windows update.

        I would definitely expect that you can update via Windows > Update. Just depends on what system you're running.
