Make sure that you are not accidentally adjusting a slider in the general panel as opposed to the masking panel. This is usually what is going on on posts just like yours.

A similar problem to watch out for is having the Masks panel open, but no mask is actually selected. In this case, moving a slider isn’t adjusting any mask, just the default for the next mask.
