Hi. I 'upgraded' Lightroom Classic to Adobe Lightroom 7 and I cannot open Lightroom Classic. I want to return to my version of Lightroom Classic. How do I do this?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Which Lightroom 7 did you have? Lightroom Desktop 7.0, released in October, or Lightroom Classic 7.0, released 6 years ago?

Hi. I am running Mac OS Sonoma 14. I "upgraded" Lightroom Classic this morning and now all I can open is Adobe Lightroom and I hate it. Where did my Lightroom Classic go? Also, why is it so difficult to find the answer to what Adobe has done here? This seems a little nuts to change the entire program (which I am paying monthly for) and to give next to no easy explanation for what has taken place.

I would certainly like to return to my previous version of Lightroom Classic. Is this even possible?

Thank you for any help with this.

Yes, but first try to find Lightroom Classic. Doesn't your Mac have some list of all installed applications? Check there, see if you can find it and open it from there. (I'm not a Mac person, but I thought Macs do have such a list)

I "upgraded" Lightroom Classic this morning ...

May I ask how you did this, in detail, step-by-step? What happened? Did it seem to work at the time, and then later you discovered the problem you described? Or were there apparently errors during installation?

Also I am curious as well about the question asked by @GoldingD

I was using Lightroom Classic this morning when the program popped open a message saying that there was an upgrade available. I upgraded and now when I click on "Adobe Lightroom CC" in my applications folder this program called Adobe Photoshop Lightroom opens and it appears to be an entirely differenct program. I can access my photos but everything else is changed. I can't even find a way to make a virtual copy of an image.

This program must work but I don't want to use it. I want my old version of Lightroom Classic back. I am frustrated by the fact that Adobe tells me that there is an upgrade available and then when I did upgrade I get an 'entirely' different program.

What can I do to get back my previous version of Lightroom Classic?

Thank you for any help with this.

"Adobe Lightroom CC" is not Lightroom Classic. I asked you if Lightroom Classic is in the list of installed applications. Did you look there? It sounds like you didn't. Please do that.

Sorry for the confusion. I've never understood how or why Adobe has this naming thing the way it does.

The program in my applications folder is Adobe Lightroom CC.

Again sorry for calling it Lightroom Classic.

Go to the Adobe Creative Cloud application on your computer. Can you open Lightroom Classic from there? Try installing/opening it from there. And please tell us the answer to the question from @GoldingD. We're trying to help you but you have to help us. Don't make us ask repeatedly for this information.

Sounds like you clicked the wrong button. Lightroom 7 is not an upgrade of Lightroom Classic, it is an entirely different application. Both can be installed on your computer, so even if you installed Lightroom 7 by mistake, then you should still have Lightroom Classic (unless you uninstalled that).

Hi. It sure as heck looks like an entirely different application. Lightroom Classic asked me before 'upgrading' to close Lightroom Classic and this I did.

While "Adobe Lightroom Classic" still showes in my application folder when I click it I get this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom thing.

All I want to do is get this thing off my computer and get back Lightroom Classic.

That is not Lightroom Classic, that is Lightroom. The 'CC' does not stand for Classic, but is a remnant from the time that all Creative Cloud apps had 'CC' in their name (Adobe tries to make things as confusing as possible).

I see that. Da.

I am attempting to update now.

So what is this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom which opened every time I clicked on "Adobe Lightroom CC" in my applications folder (and while the upgrade to Lightroom CC had failed)?

Thank you so much for taking the time to wade through all my misunderstandings about which Lightroom I had and all.

By Firislander

That is Lightroom, a different application. You don't need it but apparently you installed it without knowing what you installed. https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom-classic/lightroom-cc-vs-lightroom-classic.html

Hi. The update for Lightroom CC failed for the second time:

Now when I attempt to open Lightroom CC I get this error message:

When I look in the Applications Folder in the Finder I see this:

So is this saying that Lightroom CC was uninstalled today?

This confuses me because I did not knowingly uninstall the program.

When I click on Adobe Lightroom CC from the Finder window it opens Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Version 7.0. Is this the updated version of Lightroom I use everyday? It looks almost entirely new. I can’t even find how to create a Virtual Copy of an image. Did this feature get dropped?

If this is my new, updated version of Lightroom does Adobe provide any assistance on how to understand this version?

Again, thank you for any help with this.

LIGHTROOM CC IS A DIFFERENT APPLICATION.

You want Lightroom Classic. Don't even touch Lightroom CC. Run Lightroom Classic from your Applications folder.

It seems you tried to include some screenshots, but they are not there. Do not post through email, because you can't include screenshots if you do. Visit the forum in your web browser.

As explained, Lightroom 7 (CC) is a different application. It is not the update of Lightroom Classic, which is the Lightroom that you used up till now. If you have troubles updating Lightroom Classic, then try to uninstall it and reinstall it.

Hi. So my question is: How can I get back to the Lightroom I love and use everyday? That’s all I want. Nothing else. This Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 7.0 is definitely not what I want. When I click on the link to Adobe Lightroom Classic which I use every single day now says that “The application “Adobe Lightroom Classic” can’t be opened.

Can anyone please tell me how I can get rid of this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 7.0? I hate it. I wish to get it off my computer and I’d like just to be allowed to return to the Lightroom Classic I had until this morning. I pay my monthly fee and I’d like to get what I pay for.

Please, can someone help me do this simple thing?

I don’t understand.

I appreciate your help but what do I do? I am not getting the help that I need here and I don’t understand why.

I wish to get back to the Lightroom Classic I have been using as of this morning before Lightroom told me there was an update available. I updated and got this thing called Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 7.0. What the heck is this thing? I don’t like it. I don’t want it. I wish to get back to the Lightroom Classic I had this morning before I was encouraged to update. This whole thing is a bit nuts and I don’t understand why I can’t get the help I am asking for here.

I appreciate everyone trying to help but nothing has helped. I am paying for my subscription and I think for that money I should be able to get the help I need. Why is so difficult?

Please! How do I rid myself of this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 7.0? It is no good for the work I do. It offers me nothing I want. I liked the old version. Is it really this hard to get this thing off my hard drive and allow me to get back to the version I am paying for?

I’m asking what I think is a simple question. Please help me get rid of this thing that is now on my computer. I’ve tried to reinstall Lightroom Classic 12.3 three times today and it fails every time.

I have gotten about 5 notices that my question has been “upvoted”. What does this even mean? At least they keep saying, "Thanks for contributing!”

I am obviously very frustrated and I apologize for my tone but this is just nuts to me.

How do I get an answer to my question? Please someone inform me how I can rip this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 7.0 off of my computer and get back the program I am paying for.

Is there anyone out there who understands what I am asking for and who can help me with this. It can’t be this difficult to pull off. I have been at this all day and no one has been able to help me.

Again, I do appreciate that people seem to be trying but no one has yet given me an answer to my question. Am I the only one in the Adobe universe who “upgraded” and got stuck with this Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 7.0?

Since there seems to be no one who can help me with this, is there some way I can speak with someone about this? Again, I’m paying for this subscription and I should at least be able to get this resolved. Isn’t this the reason you are charging me every month for this program?

I remain completely frustrated with the help available here.
