I have Lightroom 5, since purchasing a new Canon M5 and 6D to replace older cameras, they produce CR2 files, these cannot be imported into LR5.

I have the Lightroom 2.4.1 that will import these however the editing funtions of this LR is not very good, ie no red eye reduction feature etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Since you have made the decision to continue using Lightroom 5, your only choice will be to convert your raw images to DNG files using the free DNG converter available from Adobe. Then those DNG files can be imported and edited using Lightroom 5. That version of Lightroom has long since been tabled by Adobe and is no longer supported, no longer updated, will no longer receive any updates or be provided with any modification of any sort that will enable users to have support for native raw files from newly released cameras. DNG files contain all the original raw image data. The DNG file format is just a new wrapper that enables uniformity and therefore greater compatibility.

You have to convert the RAW files from the new cameras into DNG using Adobe DNG converter. Then you can import these into LR5
