Import dialog opens randomly after 14.2

After the 14.2 update the import dialog suddenly opens randomly even when there is no activity on the computer.

Is this a setting that can be changed or a bug?

Correct answer johnrellis

"[X] Show import dialog when a memory card is detected.

I have not inserted any memory card or attached any camera."

With that option, LR will open the Import window when any new file device is detected. You may have a loose connection to an external disk or USB drive that is causing Windows to notify LR there's a "new" volume mounted.  There have been a few reports here over the years of obscure utilities/services that frequently mount/unmount new virtual drives or network drives in background -- those people were able to see the new drives become briefly visible in Windows File Explorer.

If you can't narrow down the cause, it may be simpler to just uncheck that option and manually click Import.

Check what options are selected at LrC Preferences > General tab> Import options.

Checked are:

[X] Show import dialog when a memory card is detected.

[X] Select the "Current/Previous Import" collection during import.

I have not inserted any memory card or attached any camera.

OK, then I know what is causing it. I have backups scheduled at different times during the day and each backup mounts and unmounts a network disk on a raspberry pi file server.

As I never before have used the option to auto open when a SD card is being inserted I can gladly disable it.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge about this.

And... it has probably nothing to do with 14.2 but with the that I did a reset of the settings to try to solve another problem.
