Question

Import LR6 catalogue into LRc 13.5?

I just got LRC 13.5 and I like to import my old LR6 catalogue. It happily starts coverting and then it fails. Is this at all possible or do I do something wrong?

Many thanks in advance

Johannes

Moderator: This is a Lightroom-Classic forum thread.

Maybe I misinterpret the words in your question, but you do not need to "import" the Lr6 catalog.

With all Lightroom apps closed, you simply [Open] (by a Double-Click) the Lr6 catalog { .LRCAT file }. Lr-Classic will then make a copy of the catalog file and upgrade the copy to work with v13.5.  You should see a dialog that asks you to upgrade and rename to the new catalog format.. The new catalog is the one used going forward.

If this procedure fails it might help to give us more information as to 'How it fails'. Do you see any error messages? Post screen-clips.

A corrupt catalog can cause problems. Hardware faualts can csuse problems. Try opening a catalog from the most recent backup.

Many thanks Rob! First thing I take away is that it should be possible. Good news! Now:

I followed your procedure and the first thing is that LRC complains that there is no ".lcat-data", which I understand is due to the fact the LR6 did not use that. Continuing,  LRC happily starts converting to "Lightroom Catalogue-v13-5.lcat."

After a wile I get the message (Translated from German): "This catalogue cannot be used: During updating of the catalogue file, an error occurred. This catalogue cannot be used with this Lightroom version".

So I guess there is a problem with the LR6 catalogue. This must be a longstanding one, as it is the same with one year old backups.

Any recommendation to  repair/check the LR6 catalogue integrety?

Thanks again!

Error message would suggest some type of corruption in the .LRCAT file. I don't know an answer, only things to try-

No reason to suggest but, you could try an earlier version of Lightroom-Classic. (Uninstall 13.5, Install v12 from the CC Desktop App.) Give that a go.  (In the CC Desktop app, show Apps, click the [...] incon on Lightroom-Classic, choose [Other Versions]. )
